Don’t think it’s much to worry about, risk appears to be more politicians overreacting:

Sold yesterday at £16.105 and so will see how that goes. Happy to have some cash while we have the uncertainty of Omicron and possible impact on markets in general.

GLA and have a happy and healthy festive period.

Stands to reason. If more people are working at home and not socialising in hospitality settings then people are going to drink more, game more, gamble more and smoke more.If people have the freedom to smoke without restrictions which is what the workplace, office and hospitality impose, then people out of boredom more than anything else seek some pleasure from a cigarette.imho

uk lockdown, travel curbs, border control, seem to have benifited IMB 10% in UK retail

Thank you dmore, very interesting report.

Trying to understand the counter-intuitive analysis that lockdowns and curbs on international travel have been good for big tobacco. The interpretation is that shut downs have curtailed cross-border smuggling and the trade in fake products, forcing puffers to buy more of the real thing by about 5-6% in 2021.

So we are not celebrating the idea that people are smoking more, just that covid has favoured legal trade over illegal trade. Temporarily?

Strange then that IMB said they were hoping for resumption of international duty free trade, when the net effect of open borders and renewed international travel is to depress sales of legal tobacco.

Must be progress towards the 5 year plan announced in January, eg debt reduction, steady revenue and core market share. That was £800K just for Bomhard.

Not a huge market but other countries will no doubt be watching how it plays out.

New Zealand will outlaw smoking for those who are aged 14 and under today will never be legally able to buy tobacco, the legal smoking age will increase every year.

The government announced the rising age alongside other measures to make smoking unaffordable and inaccessible, to try to reach its goal of making the country entirely smoke-free within the next four years.

I'm happy for these to hover around 1550 and collect my 10%. DLG are paying 8% with the chance of a bonus divi once the buyback ends and are rising as well.
