Sorry if this has been posted before.

£2bn ? Really - when was that then ? The very zenith during the 2012 bubble was only £1.8bn and that was clearly nonsensical. Before 'Applegate' when the world assumed IMG valuation included ad finitum Apple revenues the market cap was only around £825m and even then a 25% uplift for a bid would only have got a cap of £1bn.

Try getting some actual facts straight in your fevered brain before you let the conspiratorial flights of fancy take over.

I would be ecstatic both for myself and long suffering Imagineers and staff to see a £1bn bid but the reality unfortunately will be more like a ceiling of £5-600m unless some Trump sized egos get involved.

Thanks. Ha, you mean on Thursday, the 240 likely it is not my app errors?
Will the bidder play a game buy and sell to down the current price? I mean if there is still a risk for who bought as 136 like me :)
Thanks

Yes the shares would normally be open to the public even after a formal bid, unless imagination technologies suspended its share listing for any reason it deemed fit'
And yes share price quotes can fluctuate wildly and momentarily ,but mostly because of technical glitches and nervous market makers.

Anyone had the experience what happens when the bid starts? Is the shares still open to the public?
On Thursday, about 2pm, on my trading212 app, it showed buy price 240, after 10mins, it backed to normal...

A few years ago imagination technologies was worth 2 billion and now it's valued at 400 odd million, anyone who buys imagination at less than 1 billion =industry standard takeout price for 8/10 times turnover of £140 million.
So apple take there turnover out with a 24 month cancellation of there chips .how conveniently for them, and imaginations valuation plummets and inside that 24 month window of opportunity apple gets to buy imagination much cheaper than imagination wanted to sell the company at. Yes ordinarily a we plastic making company that might seem acceptable, but imagination technologies has poured countless millions into RD and built up a world class portfolio of intellectual property , and a lot of it is very valuable to mainly apple and clearly many others, so to treat imagination in this way is I guess just dirty bussiness/ ruthless bussiness practice, but only bussiness in Apple's eyes, and to buy it less than over 1billion
Is not a fraction of its real worth I admit ,but a lot less than its real worth.
You can have 1 patient on one thing and be worth any amount of countless billions if someone knows we're to place it in there own technologies at the right time.

What an utter load of b0ll0cks. How are Apple buying IMG at a fraction of their value at over £1bn ? That's 2.5x current share price !

Can't believe I engaged anything but the filter button.

Timbob2000 you have nearly answered your own questions just by asking them.
Why would apple virtually destroy imagination or hand it to a competitor when its now a fraction of its original worth, and all because of Apple's text book repeated strategies of taking over suppliers. Apple have just said to themselves why do we want to pay 8/10 Times for our own suppliers turnover when we can quite often remove that turnover by telling them there's no more supply agreement.
And then buying that supplier much more cheaply.

And all they have to do is wait for anyone to make a bid for imagination and they know they can justify a bid north of 1 billion pound if they really have to
.because imaginations turnover is around £140 million so 8/10 Times turnover for a , so any offer below that is getting imagination on the cheap compared to last year's valuation.and any offer will sail through most if not all regulatory hurdles, and Apple have already demonstrated to the uk it's serious about increasing its uk workforce and businesses as they have a huge complex just down the road from imaginations bussiness, so really they are in a fantastic position to take over imagination on the cheap, and a we phone call to D. Trump to T.May should speed things up,for Apple and T.Mays trade deals with D.Trump.
But you can be sure the power of China's money and influence will come into force here, as canyon bridges really doesn't want to loose potentially another takeover target, so it should be exciting should there be a bid battle,
My only concern is that canyon bridges could wait a while before T.May gives a informal ok for China's bid. She will really not want to offend either America or china, so everyone might have to make there highest bids and then it will be looked at in its entirety. China has a massive amount of money to invest abroad and D.Trump wants everything invested in the USA. .all IMHO

During Volker Politz’s keynote address, titled “Enabling Innovation with AI”, he introduced different aspects of current technologies, including the application of neural network technology in computer vision, VR/AR/MR image processing and IoT.

Politz also announced that Imagination Technologies will soon reveal new technologies that will be significant in the AI industry.

Tombelfast, why would Apple want to leave IMG open to a cheap takeover target? Being a takeover target means potentially one of Apple's rivals buying PowerVR, and even though Apple so say has there own in house GPU solution I still do not think Apple would be very happy seeing PowerVR falling into Samsung's hands for instance.
If you think about it Apple are potentially creating competition for themselves by dumping IMG. Let's say Canyon Bridge do decide to buy IMG, I believe they will leave IMG as a separate entity but start pumping more investment into PowerVR than IMG ever could have. When that happens that could mean PowerVR becoming an even stronger product than now, which Apple would have to counter, therefore requiring Apple to spend more dollars on GPU investment... All speculation maybe but not out of the realms of possibility.

Your absolutely right apple has treated imagination appallingly IMHO. It's the same way donald trump treats many businesses that have worked for him, and confirmed by Hillery clinton.
What apples doing to imagination is a text book repeat to what it's done to other companies it's taken over. First poach key staff to destabilise its target and then pull or threaten to pull supply agreements. And ask key poached staff everything it needs to know about its target including other key staff to poach and offer them a bigger remuneration package, destroying its bid target by destroying its management
, leaving its target vulnerable to a cheap takeover offer.

Indeed Apple do have a long history of dropping suppliers if they can get a better deal elsewhere, or decide to develop in-house.

This is normal business practice, and it's up to suppliers to structure their companies so that losing Apple as a customer doesn't cause them to fail.

The IMG case is different. Apple have poached top IMG talent, and after announcing that they were dropping IMG they deliberately setup their own GPU design centre close enough to IMG to make it easy for IMG employees to jump ship. This effectively sabotages IMG's main business.

I don't think this would have happened under Steve Jobs - he was no angel, but he did have a strong sense of right and wrong, unlike Tim 'Spreadsheet' Cook.

“I was hoping you'd explain your comment. How is it the same when it hasn't happened before ?”

Apple has a long history of learning how suppliers operate, dropping them and at times moving things in-house. A lot of companys have ran into major problems after scaling up due to Apple demands then being dropped.

Although IMG IP is more complicated then Apples normal targets it’s nothing new. Somewhere out there on the web there is a long list of suppliers who ran into problems due to Apple.

Why are you talking to him K?

Anyhow we all like some press coverage, I have mixed feelings about Tempus in The Times but fwiw he reckons a substantial premium would be needed in an IMG buy-out

Don't get too excited, wonder how much he knows about IMG ?;-),

They wouldn't show IMG their designs as they claim they are not using IMG IP. It is up to IMG to challenge Apple and prove infringement, not Apple to prove they're not.

I would be very interested to read about any examples you can find where Apple have deliberately undermined a supplier in this way in order to then buy them on the cheap. I know Apple have bought 100's of companies but never heard of this happening.

I don't disagree with your assessment of the shoddy way in which Apple have treated a long term valued partner/supplier but they are what they are. You sleep with dogs you wake up with fleas.

Apple will still be basing their GPU designs on PowerVR IP for this year. Earliest possible date they could be not using IMG IP is next iteration - hence the "won't be using IMG IP in 18-24 months time" or whatever it was commentary.

Don't delude yourself, there will never be a "massive EU wide investigation" into Apple on IMG's account. By the time anything concret came out UK will have left the EU anyway.

I did a bit of reading on takeovers the other day and the timeframes are exceedingly liquid unfortunately.

Any risk for us? or we are already the winner for extra 20% plus?
