From memory it was the relative demise of the Best Practice division which precipitated some of the fall-this is therefore good news with all divisions now expanding.

Trading statement a bit 'wooly' but at least it's a positive trading update

' ILX Group plc (ILX/L)

Period end trading update

for the six months to 30 September 2007

ILX Group plc, the AIM quoted business education and training specialist, is
pleased to report strong trading for the six months to 30 September 2007. The
interims results are expected to be reported in the week commencing 19 November
2007.

The Corporate Training Group ("CTG") division has seen continued growth in
turnover and profitability. Its bookings into 2008 are well ahead of the same
period last year, in spite of recent disruption to financial markets.

The Best Practice division is benefiting from the integration process carried
out earlier this year. Costs have been reduced and the restructuring will
benefit both sales and margins in the future. During the period the division has
made a number of contract gains and increased its market share.

Ken Scott, Chief Executive of ILX Group commented:

"In light of our order books and the visibility of future earnings we view the
prospects for the rest of the year with confidence."

Why do I say that ? Well, how about because it's what the figures seem to say.

05/06 Turnover of £6381k excl acquisitions plus Mount Lane last full year £1539k plus Corporate Projects £574k gives a total of £8494k. 06/07 turnover (excluding CTG) was 17.5% down at £7001k. I am led to believe that the company admitted at the AGM that Mount lane turnover was 70% down at c£400k following the exit of the ML Sales director.

Operating profit of £851k plus ML £494k plus CP £142k gives a total of £1487k. The 06/07 result excluding CTG was 88% down at £179k.

There may well be some inaccuracies with the way I've worked out those figures (I might be adding apples and pears) but I struggle to reconcile them with the wording of the January trading statement and Annual Report.

You could well have a recovery in Best Practice but it might be from a very low level in certain instances (both the ML and CP earn outs were cancelled).

I believe that the CTG acquisition is performing excellently as has been announced and this will probably be reflected in good interims that will benefit from CTG's stronger first half.

Overall though, I have too many doubts about the full picture so have taken advantage of the director buying to take a loss and move on.

AA,

Why do you say that? I understood from the most recent news that they were optimistic about improving the BP performance.

Try looking at last year's poor performance of Best Practice. I'll work it out later today but 05/06 profit plus Mount Lane pre acquisition profit plus Customer Projects pre acq profit will be substantially higher than the 06/07 outcome.

I expect that will be why the share price isn't responding to the CTG successes.

nilip - the only reason the price rose from its decline was the Director buys, unless they plan to support the price continually, I'd suggest they release a placing and trading update as someone clearly has greater selling power than they have buying power and for some reason sees that current price is worth getting out at.

It's certainly frustrating to see the constant up and down.

Dusseldorf,

Do you reckon there's an insider selling ?

About time the directors let the cat out of the bag re:placing or trading update. The price seems to have a constant downward momentum, inidicating somebody knows something we don't which means insider dealing of some sort.

Recent director buying is pretty encouraging given ILX has a large exposure to the financial sector. They are obviously confident about prospects as a whole. They could easily have waited it out and then made an informed decision. The fact they haven't bothered suggests trading is pretty strong and results should bear that out.

I think the directors are back in the market today looking for more stock. The bid is very firm which suggests MM need stock to fill a buy order.
