the reason why i check for short daily, is because of past co.s ive been in where shorts have built up, and sometimes they did know something... moni good example..... but other cos example could be like ENQ where oil was falling so naturally you see shorts build in higher beta co oil co.s....

but for hur where seemingly from euroclear theres 7.5m shs held short at end of nov, thats not a concern to me at all...

i jjust want lincoln news.... :-)

then we'll see some twitchin', lets say...

laser, thx for link.. i did have that too, but use the one i put up, beacsue its updated daily...

cheers

Thanks buffy. Well, as you've probably guessed I'm not a highly leveraged trader haha. In this for the long term, well, as long as the fundamentals continue to look as good as they do. I've only been investing for a couple of years, and so I'm concious of the importance of staying objective and not getting 'too attached' to the company, but it is a very compelling story and one which potentially seems to have so much upside.
Hopefully some great news in the run up to Xmas. Good luck

No Richard, it means absolutely nothing unless you are a short term and/or a highly leveraged trader. If anything, it enables investors to build a position more cheaply than they otherwise would.

When a company is raising money it might have an effect, but not with this company and these assets.

Thank you Leeson, that makes sense.
I also can't see why anybody would want to short a company such as hur which is looking at so much potential good news and near term plans.
Presumably the main concern in seeing a sudden build of shorts is that it implies that the shorters know something we don't? As you've said, that certainly doesn't seem to be the case.
It's good to know that you're clearly well aware of this and checking regularly. People like you are a credit to this board and a great help to those of us who, how shall I say, are still learning haha. Never stop learning eh. Thanks!

richard.. it would matter if we saw a sudden build of shorts like say ~10pc of the co.. that would be alarming...

when the stock is shorted it has to be put through the sets book, so in effect whatever stocj is held short aat present, is in the price....

on a satirical note: its very nice seeing stocks rise hard, when being shorted hard... :-)

imo, HUR isnt a likely candidate for institutions to short... not unless say it had a massive run to 125p/sh, and there was then probably a period of time befofre next news....

no stock above 0.5pc is registered as being short on HUR

hxxp://shorttracker.co.uk/

i check everyday...

1pc of hur stock is ~12m shs, anything over 0.5pc or ~6m shs being shorted by anyone/co/entity, by law has to report, and i check the above url every day and nothing registered on HUR....

note: its 'possible' that a few co./s short HUR with say, ~5m shs, ech position not reportable....

imo, its just selling pressure, not shorts.... specially with the amount of newsflow afoot..

also, stocks that get shorted are ones usually that are primed for a fall after exceptional runs, niot stocks that have tremendous upside with newsflow..

Guys, can I just ask a bit of a newbie question? Does it actually matter if we are being shorted? Presumably it doesn't actually effect our share price does it? And assuming, as we all hope, that the Lincoln results are good, and that we then move on to Halifax for the main event, presumably anyone shorting it will get fried as the share price rises on good news.

It's the oil index. It's had one run up, but now they are shorting it the other way! It's all about the mkt price for oil and very little to do with HUR or common-sense. Get wise too it eh?

Thanksamillion.

No not Jan 2017... Lincoln will be completed before year end.

Halifax is expected to be spudded before year end as well.

In the Vox Market podcast on Tuesday 29/11/16 Alistair Stobie clearly states that the Halifax will be spudded this year. (4:26mins into podcast)

From 20/10 Open offer document

"It is expected that the Lincoln well will spud in November this year, directly following the completion of the Horizontal Sidetrack Well and the anticipated removal of the wear bushing from the Lancaster 6 Well. It is expected to be completed before year end."

So not Jan 2017 then.

I wonder if Huddleston and Crystal amber have made a deal with another big new investor to mop up their shares their selling. Its becoming general knowledge that a big seller is off loading their shares and that it's a opportunity to get into HUR at these unbelievable low prices.

A huge opportunity for real transformation remains, if companies can take the next step and embrace radical changes in how they work together to build efficient, sustainable and long-term businesses in the UKCS," Whitehead said. The survey is the third in a series of surveys carried out by Deloitte to gauge the effectiveness of industry efforts, supported by Oil & Gas UK's Efficiency Task Force (ETF), to improve cross-industry collaboration. This study follows calls from major players in the oil and gas industry for more collaboration amid a low oil price, which were made at the 17th GE Oil & Gas Annual Meeting in Florence, Italy, back in February.Companies in the sector were advised to band together by GE Oil & Gas' CEO Lorenzo Simonell, in order to weather the storm affecting the oil and gas industry at the time.
