But most of HSBC's income is from Hong Kong. So are they reguarded as a European bank?

The ECB has requested European banks hold off on dividend payments until the end of October.

I heard that banks MAY be requested to FREEZE their divis.
Can any clarify what has actually been said and by whom.
I also heard that the comment was specifically with regard to Barclays.

Happy to continue accumulating dripping money into HSBA over a 36 month period. Should even out the bumps in the road. spud

The only mention I've seen in the last couple of days including the words "Regulator", "banks", "dividend" and "cuts" has also included the word "retired"....

Thanks Spud. As u correctly state, the Div is due on 14 April, which I have corrected. I guess the Barclays Div due on 3 April will influence any HSBC decision.

stuffee - Your fear has made you inaccurate as to the next dividend payment date chap:

'Personally I fear HSBC may have to follow recommendations of the Regulators and cancel imminent final div of 21c due to be paid on 21 April'

spud

PS It will be paid imo.

Personally I fear HSBC may have to follow recommendations of the Regulators and cancel imminent final div of 21c due to be paid on 14 April, even though quoted ex-div. Irrespective of its financial strength, Board won't wish to defy Regulators' wishes. Any dividend deferral will obviously have a marked impact on HSBC share price and indeed on whole market, precipitating even more controversy.

Interesting dilemma for the Mighty Quin!

Is HSBC capable of delivering on anything it says it's going to?! Maybe Quinn wants to keep his nice guy reputation, but covid makes the need to be leaner and meaner even more urgent, not less, and the excuse for delay is clearly not convincing anyone.

Most companies have high divi percentages at the moment but only due to the crash.

Reality is if not paying divi will have more cash, more stable, less risk and therefore will be reflected in share price at some point.I have no issue with companies reducing divi in current climate especially those that have high % divis at moment.
