Hill & Smith growth priced in, says Shore Capital

Sustainable infrastructure group Hill & Smith (HILS) is positioned to grow its high-margin businesses and increase sales, but there are more attractive opportunities elsewhere, says Shore Capital.

Analyst Tom Fraine retained his ‘hold’ recommendation on the stock, which closed up 1.1%, or 16p, at £15.20 after reporting 10% revenue growth in the four months to 30 April.

‘We believe the company is well positioned to grow its high margin galvanising business and increase sales into the US and UK highways market,’ he said.

‘However, we believe its growth opportunities are fairly reflected in the current share price. We see Renew Holdings (RNWH) as a more attractive opportunity for investors seeking to capitalise on an expected increase in government spending on infrastructure.’

so the Jeffries rating is welcome and all that - but I find myself a bit stunned that it generated an 8.2% lift on Friday and as i type in first 30mins today we're up 15.87

is there anything else going on?

MIDAS SHARE TIPS UPDATE: Bold Government infrastructure promises bode well for manufacturers including Hill & Smith

Midas verdict: Hill & Smith shares closed at £15.78 last week so investors who bought in 2014 have seen the price almost triple. Most of those gains arose under the former chief executive but Simmons is determined to do even better than his predecessor.

Cautious investors may choose to sell down now in case the new man is wrong-footed. Selling out completely would be a mistake, however. Hill & Smith is an obvious beneficiary of the infrastructure boom and if Simmons' plans work out, the shares could really motor.

dave, thanks, missed that today.

Jefferies initiated coverage of Hill & Smith on Friday with a ‘buy’ recommendation and 1,750p price target, saying the company has "all the ingredients to re-rate".

"Hill & Smith has an attractive spread of end markets spanning the general theme of 'infrastructure investment'," Jefferies said. The bank's organic revenue growth forecast of around 6% a year for FY21-FY24 is double the historic trend.

"Fuelling this growth is rising government investment on road networks in the UK (£27bn Road Investment Strategy 2) and US ($135bn within the proposed American Jobs Act).

"Our proprietary Road Investment Model indicates market growth of 4% per annum (FY20 - FY25F) which will support both the Road & Security and Galvanizing divisions."

Jefferies said the US utilities businesses also look well-placed to benefit from stimulus-driven upgrades to the US electricity grid and secular growth in demand for composites as a more environmentally friendly and more durable alternative to steel and wood.

"We see compelling rationale for using the strong Balance Sheet (FY21F Net Debt:EBITDA 1.2x) to build out each of the three divisions in the US," Jefferies said.

It noted that many of Hill & Smith's products and services in the US are immature with low market share but with either regulatory or environmental tailwinds.

"Furthermore, such a strategy should be accretive to group margins, with most US businesses delivering margins above their respective divisional average."

(Alliance News) -Trade was muted at midday on Wednesday as investors look ahead to the unveiling of US President Joe Biden's bumper infrastructure spending plan.

Yield rose in the US ahead of President Joe Biden proposing a USD2 trillion infrastructure plan aimed at modernising the US's crumbling transport network, creating millions of jobs, and enabling the country to "out-compete" China.

The first phase of Biden's "Build Back Better" program, which he will unveil in a speech in Pittsburgh, will detail massive investment spread over eight years.

It plans to inject USD620 billion into transport, including upgrading 20,000 miles of roads and highways, repairing thousands of bridges, and doubling federal funding for public transit.
