Integration is a euphemism for: weaker nation states, strengthened EU executive, EU army, EU taxes, strengthened EU foreign policy (remove/weaken veto) and a fiscally centralised Eurozone.

To make the EU work there are only two options: a United States of Europe or the model the Brits were originally buying into: an economic trading bloc with some common regulation (that ship sailed away a long time ago)

Interesting to hear German companies get more of their money from China then they do from France.

Then the next thing said is the only way forward for the EU is more integration.

The PI can occasionally do well by knowing a stock and making a move when large institutions such as VanEck make sector based actions which then pull the market with them. E.g. they might be reducing a particular gold share because they are reducing the whole basket. If you know this belies the fundamentals of that share then by buying when they sell you can do well in the longer term.

You can read stats a number of ways Loganair- as I've said on numerous occasions, DURING TRADING when dollar gets stronger, gold goes down, gold stocks go down. When the ftse100 goes down, gold stocks go down- this happens in the vast majority of cases. Announcements from business make biggest changes( I gamble around quarterly announcement, sometimes works, sometimes doesn't it's a pure gamble at these times- just look at centamin a recent example of this). I was lucky enough to be able to give up work for good at a 48 just overs 2 years ago being successful in business. I have numerous investments, only started on gold stocks 2.5 years ago, HGM being my long termer the others I short a lot (would have not made anywhere near the same amount of money had I not shorted gold stocks). With the strategy of predicting when dollar is weakening, ftse rising etc, I've done incredibly well (so far) fingers crossed, touch wood. Having said this, you could equally say I've been lucky as markets and gold have risen over this time period too :-). Long may it continue.

Back to the gold price. In both Sterling and rouble terms the gold price is higher then it was a year ago.

80% of HGM costs are in roubles and the rouble price of gold a year ago was around 72,000 and currently stands at around 79,000, nearly 10% higher.

Most of HGM taxes are paid in roubles.

Most of the exploration and development cost of HGM's new mine that is due to come in to production in a couple of years time is also in roubles.

Nearly 20% of HGM revenues come from Lead, Zinc and Silver which is sold in dollars. The Lead and Zinc is sold to Kazzinc of Kazakhstan and Hyosung of China.

C47 - not the best example to give as the Japanese would have kept fighting for several more years with far more people being killed and injured then by dropping the 2 atom bombs which bought an also immediate end to the war in the pacific.

Overall it seems to me the most despicable government around is the US Government. As the US Government are carrying out horrible atrocities in so many countries.

L - even further back, the atom bombs were unforgivable, imo. Doesn't change that Putin, Assad etc are despicable.

All these things are complicated and there are no easy answers. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

c47 - One last one. I have worked in Vietnam and seen where the Americans dropped agent Orange. Today 50 years later nothing will still grow and the soil has completely bleached white.

In the last 40 years, the USA has most probably committed more crimes against humanity then any other country and guess what, most people look away.

L - just because Assad is nice to some people doesn't mean we can look away when he is gassing others. There is plenty of evidence for his crimes against humanity. There is also plenty of evidence for the West's disingenuous and cack-handed policies towards him/Syria.

The Russian's who make up around 90% of Crimea no longer wanted to remain part of the Ukraine.

When the Ukraine first became independent Crimea had a lot of autonomy with Russian being its first language. Then sometime after 2010 the Ukrainian Government came along and took away Crimea's autonomy and the Russian language could no longer be used for official purposed or in schools.

I agree about the Taters who are neither Ukrainian or Russian and they have been treated very badly in all this. In the 19th Century the Tartars where treated very badly by the British when we occupied Crimea for a short time.

The "Me Too Movement" is not democratic as they want women to have the best parts the men have while not willing to give up the best parts they have to men. They say that women have to be in every part of a mans life while there are parts of a women's life where men do not belong.

L - agreed that state interference can be counter-productive and "prevent" capitalism. But it's a difficult one. E.g. any regulation that improves transparency and accountability I'm generally in favour of. For example listed companies which are majority held by private investors: right now it's virtually impossible for the private investor to have a voice or bring legal action against the directors as the processes and procedures for doing so are making it very difficult and there are plenty of examples on AIM of companies who use this to reward themselves at the expense of the business and private investor.

Are they going to forbid them to use tampons and wear bras? Ridiculous. The obvious answer is to let boys wear skirts. They won't. Problem solved.

Russia didnt "accept" the return of Crimea. Russia annexed it with military force and along the way murdered those who opposed it (plenty of evidence on that, especially ethnic Crimean Tatars were murdered by the Russians).

zang - I think the word "punishment" is wrong, as I would say "negative consequences." With out suffering the full consequences of ones actions then one will carry on doing the same actions time and time again.

I've just been hearing today how some state schools in England are banning girls from wearing skirts because school uniform needs to be gender neutral. How the hell are these girls ever going to be able to get jobs in the Middle East or Asia if they do not know how to handle men and stand up for themselves when men are around?

More importantly banning girls from wearing skirts is Undemocratic as it has taken away the girls right to choose to wear a skirt if she wishes to do so.

bit of a contradiction, as you want votes and self-determination to be respected, but not in Crimea? If Russia is to be "punished" for accepting the return of Crimea, how shall we be punished for the far nastier and indisputably illegal destruction of various countries in North Africa / Middle East? Even today our government which can't pay nurses is giving millions to promote violent insurgency in Syria. Where is our punishment?

"Must be punished" ffs. Are you a primary school teacher?

c47 - Agreed with the first part, however his thoughts on running the Chinese economy are those of Deng rather then those of Mao.

I agree about risk-failure, a good well managed company thrives while a bad poorly mismanaged company goes bust.

Look at Golman Sachs, holding their average share for less then 1 second or CDO's and Derivatives, while the Fed lends to them at an interest rate of 0.005% to do these things is not Capitalism to me.

Deutche Banks holds more Derivatives then twice the entire worlds GDP.

In the UK Capitalism would have meant the profitable parts of RBS being put into NatWest leaving the investment side of RBS to go bust, then the government wouldn't have had to bail out RBS.

I wish the UK government would crack down on some of the UK CEO's, bankers and officials as the Chinese have done. Leave them on the most outer Island in the Hebridies then forget about them.

zang - Estonia has really been hurt because they trade more with Russia then with the Eu. 30% of the Estonian population are Russians and most Estonian's speak fluent Russian.

When I look at Crimea imagine the UK and France being one country. The Prime Minister being French gives the Isle of Weight to France. 30 years later France and the UK become separate countries and the UK wants the Isle of Weight back, most of the people of the IOW speak English rather then French and they are culturally English rather then French so the UK Government sends in troops and takes back the IOW.

Crimea is where the Russian Coptic Church started. In the mid 1950's the Head of the USSR and his deputy where both Ukrainian so they handed over to the Ukraine Crimea which has been part of Russia for many hundred's of years. They did the same with Ossetia, giving half of the republic to Georgia while leaving the Northern half still in Russia.

When it comes to Crimea, this year they are going to have a record grain harvest because of all the investment it has received from Russia.

Xi is not like Mao, his thoughts are more like those of Dung Xio Ping.

Could you please name one country that is a fully fledged capitalist democracy.

In the West we get a vote once every 4 or 5 years and that's it, that's not democracy in my book. Switzerland is most probably the most democratic country as it is the most direct democracy of any country.

Capitalist to me means putting Capital to work to help growth and increase productivity. In the West it is about printing money, so the big boys can make money at the expense of the average Joe blogs.

It would be nice if the Italians stopped the stupid EU sanctions on Russia which are only there because of US pressure. However, they are there because of US pressure - Greece, Hungary and Austria have spoken against them; the three Baltic states in particular have been hurt by the Russian counter-sanctions, but somehow every time they come up for renewal the right people are leaned on and nothing changes. So I'm not holding my breath.

In 30 years a lot can happen. The World Wide Web isn't even 30 years old.

Things like fracking have already dramatically changed the world, especially in terms of geo-politics.

I maintain: unless China becomes a fully fledged capitalist democracy its currency will never become the global reserve currency.

Under Xi China has bolstered its communist and autocratic tendencies.
