21/6/2018 12:28 | It this time of the month again - In May Russia added another 600,000 ounces of gold (18.66 tonnes) to its reserves bringing them up to 1,928.4 tonnes. At the current rate of increase they will surpass 2,000 tonnes by September and be challenging France, the world’s fourth and Italy the third largest national holder of gold within a couple of years. Russia is nervous about Forex assets held in the USA being frozen by a hostile government – a position perhaps justified by the recent freezing of some $22.6 billion of assets belonging to the Kazakhstan Sovereign Wealth Fund and held by the Mellon Bank in the U.S. Recent reports suggest that this freezing of assets was at the behest of the U.S. government as leverage to gain access by the U.S. military to two Kazakh ports on the Caspian Sea. If the reports are true then the move was nothing short of extortion by the U.S. authorities which, under the Trump administration seem to be moving towards a much more aggressive foreign policy. Kazakhstan is obviously aware of these potential prospective difficulties and is another country currently adding to its central bank’s gold reserves on a monthly basis. Another former Soviet satellite state, the Kyrgyzstan Republic, is also highlighted as having been increasing its gold reserves. It has been piling up gold reserves as a hedge against a possible trade war between Beijing and Washington. In 2015 the share of gold in the countries reserves was just 8%, currently it stands at 16% and is seeking to boost the share of gold in its reserves to 50%. | loganair

20/6/2018 10:12 | f66 and all GC was just mentioning to me about tw as a good dividend play which I thank him for. HGM offer a 7% dividend which I am very grateful for, dyor. active | srpactive
20/6/2018 09:24 | nervousn Re TW: From their last accounts "The Board confirms its intention to keep the mechanics of how the Company will pay special dividends, including the merits of undertaking a share buyback at some point in the future should it become appropriate to do so, under regular review. " So that does not say they are "committed to raise the special over the next five years." With potential for declining profit and cash flow there - that is certainly not a 5 year guarantee.. | fenners66
20/6/2018 07:36 | The dividend here now is 7.5% with a PE around 9. Edit: Poly leading the charge, come on hgm even the US futures are positive. dyor active | srpactive

20/6/2018 00:18 | Shows how things are changing after over 100 years GE are being removed from the Dow Jones to be replaced by Walgreens Boots Alliance also shows how some retailers are actually doing very well in the current climate. GE is the last of the original companies that joined the Dow Jones when it came into existence in 1896 and not so long ago it was the 2nd most valuable company in the world and now it is only 44th by market cap in the S&P 500. | loganair

19/6/2018 22:17 | 2solaris I trust you realise that the dividends discussed in post 12379 are those being paid by TW not HGM. | uknighted
19/6/2018 21:36 | With that sort of dividend this has got to be a good buy at these prices. | 2solaris
19/6/2018 14:37 | 11% Gary is right on TW they offer a special dividend each year and have committed to it for the next five years. The special on its own is 10.4p add to that 4.74p being the interim and final dividend and the divi is 15.14p against a current price of 183. It's about 8.3%. They have paid specials for the last five years and committed to raise the special over the next five years. | nervousnovice
19/6/2018 13:48 | You’ve answered your own question Loganair, so many are besotted hence the correlation and impact- the stats don’t lie. | stevedaytrader
19/6/2018 11:18 | Poly doing what we normally do, dyor. | srpactive
19/6/2018 10:43 | Some gold miners say as much as 85% of their costs are in local currency and not dollars. I do not understand why so many are besotted by the price of gold in dollars... At least 15% of the value of HGM mined production is Lead and Zinc which is sold in dollars with further 2% or 3% being Silver which again they sell in dollars. | loganair
19/6/2018 10:19 | Loganair - do II look at it that way? Or do they look at their portfolio and think "reduce gold miners"? | casual47
19/6/2018 10:16 | Gold is higher now in rouble and sterling terms then it was 6 months ago and 80% of HGM running costs are in roubles and our dividends are paid in sterling. Very little of HGM costs are in dollars. | loganair
19/6/2018 10:16 | GARYCOOK, Ref: 17 Jun '18 - 04:02 - 12359 of 12370 You mention "Buy TW 186p now yielding 9.8%," is that Taylor Wimpey....I get it yielding 2.58%. Cheers. | 11_percent
19/6/2018 10:13 | Let’s agree to disagree on this like we always do - yet again dollar stronger and gold drops and so do we. | stevedaytrader
