06/7/2018 14:55 | L - possibly, though that doesn't make it 'right'. History has a way of bulldozing towards the "overall better off" at the cost of many who you don't see mentioned in history books. I can't wait for the end of the Putin chapter in Russia's history. Whatever faults you may find with Western governments it doesn't mitigate that Putin is a ruthless crook and a dictator in all but name. As you may have suspected, much love from me for the Tatars. | casual47
06/7/2018 14:07 | By human nature most reporting is distorted by a ghastly bias. Usually I get my facts from first hand knowledge and experience. Ethiopia and the shortage of food - I was living there I saw with my own eyes grain silos overflowing onto the road and people starving because of the usual military tactics of starving the opposition out that have been around for over 3,000 years. Syria, Iraq, Iran etc - I lived in the Middle East for 5 years and know many people from these countries. Russia - Have worked and lived in Russia, first visiting Russia in 1988. Investing in the stock market - My family has been doing so since at least 1896. When the British were in control of the Crimea 170 years ago they also treated the Tartars very badly. Overall Crimea is been better off under Russian control then is was under the Ukrainians when the Ukrainian Government was latterly treating the majority Russian population of the Crimea poorly. If the UK started treating the population of the Channel Islands poorly very quickly they would vote to become part of France is why the Gibraltarians prefer to stay British rather then wanting to be part of Spain. | loganair
06/7/2018 13:48 | Meanwhile, quite happy with my purchase at £1.36 | casual47
06/7/2018 13:44 | Zangdook, which of your many varied sources give an account of bliss for the Crimean Tatars? As it happens I have been to Ukraine many times and spent time with Crimean Tatars. Apart from Russian influence media the consensus is that the Tatars have faced discrimination at best and torture and death at worst at the hands of Russians, even before Russia annexed Crimea. | casual47
06/7/2018 13:40 | SR- yes, in line with forecast so no disaster, but not great either. However, good news was the marginally lower wage growth which has caused an improved pound and weaker dollar against other currencies. Of course, it all depends what the people say for rest of the day- I'd take that though as could have been far worse and I see us moving up a bit not the other way from the low of today. | stevedaytrader

06/7/2018 12:31 | Zangdook, which outlet do you prefer for your facts? Sputnik? RT? | casual47
06/7/2018 12:29 | been away a few days casual471 Jul '18 - 15:47 - 12455 of 12553 You must be having a laugh. Radio Free Europe - US state propaganda outfit Al Jazeera - Qatari state propaganda outfit. Admittedly not quite as bad as RFE, except where Qatari state interests are involved. Amnesty - western ngo long since co-opted by the US. you'll have to look a little further than that if you want "facts and truth" about Crimea | zangdook

06/7/2018 11:46 | c47 Good post and that would not surprise me, we have been held down around £500m plus or minus ten percent all year. dyor | srpactive
06/7/2018 11:44 | Just wondering could the dividend be cut ? | montyhedge
06/7/2018 11:40 | I hope it is OK, just off topic for this post..... So trade tariffs have come into effect midnight last night. Anyone heard about a ship carrying US Soybeans trying to make it into the Chinese port and didn't make it in time. Over the past few days the price of US Soybeans is down some 25%...all good for Brazil as they are the second biggest Soybean importer to China. | loganair
06/7/2018 11:37 | Interesting cross-over update: Just posted an update on the CGH forum (I am a holder) and one point concerned their M&A strategy (as you may know they very controversially put in a $800m bid for Kumtor). In a presentation they listed the miners they believed were ripe for consolidation (full list on CGH board). One of the miners is......Highland Gold. They are targeting a first acquisition by September. (Apparently it's already in a very advanced stage) | casual47
06/7/2018 11:34 | @Casual "Toss up for me between this and CEY. Will hold out a wee bit longer before topping up in either" You could split your investment and buy both? :) Hold both myself, and RRS/Poly/ MML | fangorn2
06/7/2018 11:15 | Monty - the credo should be "never make a short term punt that you wouldn't also be happy to hold long term" HGM and CEY qualify on both accounts: Bouncy trading ranges, great divi stocks and long term value stores. Both also perennial takeover targets. | casual47
06/7/2018 11:06 | True Casual47. Back to important things, tomorrow is a huge day for us, time to pray "cry havoc and unleash the dogs of war" (Harry Kane lol) unless there are any Swedes on this thread! As someone said before, enjoy the sun and fingers crossed for tomorrow :-). | stevedaytrader
06/7/2018 11:05 | steve Day traders I thought were a thing of the past, normally a long term hold, is a short term punt that went wrong. I own these, not many but think gold is going lower. | montyhedge
06/7/2018 11:02 | Apart from a few exceptional weeks, it seems that if you bought HGM at any time in the last 5yrs you would have been able to sell and make at least your money back within 3 months of your original purchase. | casual47
06/7/2018 11:01 | Agree Casual47- I'm a day trader but have kept this one, as believe it will sell at some point and want the big gain, which is more likely at a low than high price. Hindsight is wonderful though lol! SR, I don't believe in charts as they are visible looking back but don't always work moving forward, the pattern breaks at some point then everyone acknowledges this, but then say this is the new pattern- however, I hope ur right :-). None of us want to get caught on a big slide though... although I still think the upside is on the way. There are non-farms today in the US so expect more gold activity later today. | stevedaytrader
06/7/2018 10:52 | Taking a step back and looking at the 5yr chart for HGM, CEY... we have been here before - as night comes after day and day after night: the shareprice goes down and then it goes back up again. This really shouldn't surprise anyone...It's how some of us make money | casual47
06/7/2018 10:52 | sdt The chart above seems to move in three's, three tops and then bottoms, and it does appear we have had three top's, and the third bottom is forming, right on trenline now, so hopefully about to start the three new tops, dyor. active | srpactive |
