Last time the share price was this cheap, in August 21;

1) the oil price was $65 against $98 today , gas prices are $278 thm today against around $100 in August 21

2) debt was around $2.5b compared to around $1.3b today

3) has no $200m share buyback programme, like we have today

4) had no war in ukraine and Russia oil/ gas embargo

When this turns, it will be quick imo.

csm,
It's not often anyone agrees with me on here so don't feel alone.
A shocking day not long until the half year results though!
Good luck.

They are clearly in a better position than a year ago and if they have hedged everything for the next twelve months above $100 they will do very well, they need to pay debt off first before giving money to shareholders, this will put the price up more than any dividend payment, there is a lesson they need to learn from premier especially with a recession coming and higher interest rates, companies need to be debt free for shareholders, the days of cheap borrowing are over and it never did these any good anyway, short term expect more pain, if you ask me will these be higher than todays price in the next three years I would say yes, but they could be slot lower first, doesn’t matter whether your company is good or bad they all get hammered in this market mood imho dyor

About 1m shares are bought each day so there is a long way to go to eat up the sum pledged to the buy-back.

Shareholders have until the end of August to hear what the BOD have to say about progress and even what their hedging position is.

Not often I agree with Andy but the share buyback is pretty basic stuff, like I said earlier we are in a recession and it’s getting worse and for some reason many have not noticed it happen, watch for Anglo American getting to the £10 mark, that’s when you know the blood bath is over or very nearly over, oil is $100 a barrel, pray they have forward sold the lot or it’s about to get messy all imho dyor

This is just getting sold off with everything else. Oil and gas prices are not down alarming levels and the environment has not changed with a increased need for domestic non Russian oil and gas. Shareholders are benefitting here because more shares will be bought in the share buyback because of this sell off. Bgt shares today and will acquire more tomorrow.

“The original question was about EIG and whether their % would increase. Given they have sold an unknown number of shares into the buyback I doubt their position will increase.”

Completely agree, and hopefully this will eventually be very good here for the share price as we move forward.

3.27p to sell. Come back Tony Durrant all is forgiven. Disgrace of an effort by this mob. Is it still in FTSE100 or get kicked out next cycle ?

Linda Cook’s current 4% ownership of the company is already an absolutely massive amount of skin in the game here regardless, most FTSE CEOs don’t even own one tenth of that number, so no wonder she hasn’t added recently, otherwise she’d be competing with the major institutional owners, lol.

And Good Luck to you too

Composer,

Yes it is a significant amount, gained through the takeover. How many has she acquired since becoming the CEO and why do you think she elected cash instead of putting a bit more skin in the game with her generous compensation payment?

Good luck.

OK, to clarify and avoid any crossed wires, if a shareholder doesn't buy or sell any shares during a share buyback they will own a higher net % of the company at the end of the buyback. That entitles them to a higher share of any dividend pot.

But for a buyback to work there needs to be sellers, those sellers, for obvious reasons, end up with a smaller % of the company but might still be shareholders.

The original question was about EIG and whether their % would increase. Given they have sold an unknown number of shares into the buyback I doubt their position will increase.

Good luck.

andy, there could be some cross wires here, what I’m saying is that post whatever percentage buyback, ALL remaining shareholders would benefit equally (of course in proportion to the quantity of shares that they hold post the buyback) from the reduction in the shares in circulation, hence good for all in terms of the reduction of shares in circulation, EPS, etc.

How many shares are you selling back to the company?
