I posted this yesterday, however I think it is worth posting a second time:

With this ruling a host of states that have flirted with the idea of legalising sports betting will be celebrating, including Delaware, Connecticut, Iowa, Mississippi, New York, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. With many of these states having already mapped out legislation for a legalised sports betting market in the event of today’s result.

The underground betting scene in the US is estimated to be worth up to $150bn a year and one piece of research showed before the ruling that a striking down of the law would see 32 states offering sports betting within five years.

"The US will talk it down to ensure they buy all
UK operators as low as possible"

So, it's that easy, eh? Get real.

I reckon massive consolidation
will happen now in my honest opinion. The only way UK
based operators will be left standing is if we form one or two
massive UK operator too big for the media, gambling or
telecoms sector to digest easily. Just my opinion.

A couple of quotes from Sky News:

"One research firm estimated 32 US states would seek to offer sports betting in the wake of the ruling - bringing in to the open a market in illegal gambling currently worth $150bn annually, according to the American Gaming Association."

but...

"Greg Johnson, travel and leisure equity research analyst at Shore Capital stockbrokers, said: "We suspect that the next few years are likely to be an investment phase with little meaningful profit contribution expected for operators..."

Haven't we got 49-51% joint ventures with a few US based
operators?

Sportech's announcement this evening on the ruling...

US Supreme Court Ruling -

Brownie69, re Sportech ... very well-placed in Connecticut where it has 18 huge venues / sports bars in operation and a new permit for six more.

Recently, Sportech announced "The Board anticipates announcing the launch of a Sportsbook utilising a reputable third-party vendor in H1-2018."

This could be Hills as the two have worked together on the US lobbying for regulatory change. Connecticut and New Jersey are likely to lead the way with early regulation.

Not all 51 States will implement sports betting. Many have very strong opposition from tribes and religious groups.

New Jersey, which brought the case before the Supreme Court last July, is expected to be the first state top take advantage of the ruling.

Bookies William Hill, GVC Holdings and online gaming companies Playtech and Sportech will be the main beneficiaries, said analysts at Whitman Howard.

However, Paddy Power Betfair and Sportech shares were up 10% on Monday, compared to 9% for Hills and 5% for GVC, and 2% for Playtech.

"The US Supreme Court struck down the federal law that bars gambling on individual sporting events in most of the country in a ruling likely to unleash a race among the states to attract billions of dollars in legal wagers."

The analysts added: "Sports gambling could begin in a matter of weeks in casinos and racetracks in New Jersey, which instigated the legal fight by repealing its gambling prohibition."

I was thinking more of the search engine type. You cannot rule out the
media and telecom companies either.

Now I feel you will see the UK companies with US
exposure being bought up by the US companies, even
the internet giants with lots of cash could come to
the table so to speak, dyor.

Analysts at Shore Capital said the initial reaction was "exuberant", but that GVC was primed to benefit due to "its wide international spread, momentum and significant synergy opportunities post the acquisition of LadbrokesCoral".

Which will have more impact on GVCs profitability? £2 FOBT limit or the USA opening up? Guess one is short term negative, the other is long term positive.

Clearly good News for GVC, already licensed in US and leaders in sports betting. Also the wider sector. Could be some others who get the full gain and a couple who dont..

Also good News for;
Paddy/Betfair. They can offer exchange and fixed odds products and are "clean" from a regulatory POV. US licensed.

Hills also should do well due to their US Nevada sports operations giving them first mover advantage in sports.

Two that look overdone on the sector rise this afternoon.

Sportech, not a fixed odds operator, nor exchange. More of a US horse racing operator on Pools betting. Not sure how that is as relevant as the three above.

888. Primarily casino poker operators. Got a NJ license but their sports offering is supplied by Kambi, A Swedish public company. Both the tech and trading is from Kambi, no sports IP in 888.

A lot of possibilities to juggle in the short-term!

Interesting quote from the FT re today's news:

"A substantial new market beckons for a companies which are priced on a dull UK valuation of around 12 times earnings, compared to US gaming stocks which trade at twice the profit multiple."

Might be tempted to substantially increase my position again - once the FOBT is out of the way. I'm sure there will be opportunities on the day...

Not a good day to be a shorter!

The icing on the cake would be a less draconian government limit on FOBT's than the media are anticipating. We should know this week.
