I take a different view. Kenny thought it was worth paying an extra 13.4p/share for a £5/£10 limit and 30.3p/share for £20, which to me shows how profitable these FOBT's are, even at the lowest levels of stake.

Cheshire Moggie

You fail to mention the fact that Kenny is moving, at speed, away from un-regulated markets. I most certainly don't want to see another Turkey, where at any moment the operation could be closed down, as was the case in the US, where GVC was not exposed but suffered just as much as if it had been.

I understand that the tax would have to go up by only 4% to cover the treasury's loss from FOBT's being reduced to £2.

However gambling may increase in other areas which will means the tax increase will be less than the 4% to cover any loss in tax to HMG.

It seems to me that a £2 limit wouldn't be a real problem as GVC would save the massive extra payouts to LADS shareholders. The real issue is whether there will be a new tax on gambling (especially online) that makes the UK operation much less profitable. Before LADS the U.K. was around 10% of the business. Now it's over 40% GVC is over reliant on one country again (its Turkey all over again). The sooner GVC restores a 10-15% max in any one country the better...

mylands - Why would GVC want a £20 FOBT limit as would mean paying the Lad's shareholders an immediate extra payment of around £550mln, taking on more debt and more interest payments.

Also if reduced to £20, could in a couple of years be reduced further to £2 and GVC would already have paid the extra so better to reduce now to £2 and get it out of the way.

So it sounds as though it wasn't just one minister objecting. Maybe there's hope that a £10 - £20 limit will be the result.

The Times reports a cut to the maximum stake on addictive betting machines to £2 has been delayed after a senior minister led a cabinet revolt against the plans.

Is there a fresh development?

So once again no decision is made on FOBT and the Government kicks the can down the road again.

Everyone should read the article entitled 'Why I became a gambling industry whistleblower' by Adrian Parkinson in today's business secton of the Telegraph.

A very informative and well written report on FOBT's and why slashing the maximum stake to £2 will not provide a solution to problem gambling.

GC - Correct GVC are still in the FTSE 250, however they are the 96th most valuable company in the FTSE and Wier are in 98th place. Therefore GVC are the most valuable company in the FTSE 250.

GC

The whole list lists 1 onwards so we are 96th on the whole
list, we need to get to 90th for immediate inclusion
unless we are the highest ranked non ftse100 constituent
and stocks on are removed due to being 110th or less or
being removed due to takeover.
