"Good opportunity at a critical moment for the White House to persuade PM Sudani on reaching a lasting deal with Kurdistan that will be in the interest of financial & security stability for both sides.
The USG has more than enough leverage to get this done IF it wants to.

Ceng Sagnic@cngsgnc
"I don't think (Sudani) needs to be persuaded. He will not have the power or tools to implement it even if he had the will. I agree on the final point on leverage though."

Mohammed A. Salih@MohammedASalih
"(Sudani) is not really being engaged because of his immense abilities and powers, but primarily because of being an interlocutor between Washington and Tehran on Iraq affairs.
The other reason, of course, is Washington’s perennial obsession with self-formulated moderate-hardliner binaries...

...Nevertheless, he can take serious messages if they’re not mere rhetorical performances, and pass it on to concerned parties.
Washington has lots of leverage to get both Baghdad establishment and Tehran to act on Iraq related matters, without the need for firing a bullet."

Relations between Erbil and Baghdad are already tense, but with
@apikur_oil
and #Iraq’s oil ministry going at it in the past 48hrs, another layer of complication is added. The IOCs are also suing the KRG for payment delays.

Progress?

However, companies persist in their refusal unless their unlawful conditions are met, which is unacceptable under any circumstances.

It has been done, all of it, to try to gain control of Kurd oilers, cheaply.They have proved they can survive and prosper indefinitely despite all Baghdads efforts to crush them.Baghdad is being forced to come to an accommodation or become an international pariah.

I actually see this as a good sign. ABICOR. is getting noticed. This means they finally have some presence in the room. And I don't think that iraq has any goodwill, if they could do anything they wouldn't wait this long. They are only trying to show of for their people, and using this as an opportunity to make more excuses. On the other hand, IOCs and KRG are also stalling, as i am from kurdistan i am well aware of what is actually going on behind these companies and the government. However, the big guys, which are US and UK want their Kurdish oil for Europe to further pressure russia and their allies.

The statement from the Iraqi oil ministry is down to one thing and one thing only. Pressure. The president of Turkey wants oil flowing, the US want oil flowing and I would imagine the Iraqi PM wants oil flowing. So now you have the oil ministry feeling the heat because they have behaved with utter incompetence and can’t resolve the issue they know the now have to. Answer. Blame someone else. Utterly predictable and if wasn’t for the terrible impact on Kurdistan it would be laughable.
