10/12/2017 21:37 | Ghana will need at least $100 million to reclaim lands destroyed by illegal mining activities countrywide... He said the administrators of the project believed that deposits of gold left at the galamsey sites could be processed to raise a substantial part of the funds needed for the reclamation exercise. Dr Karikari said the reclamation process could only begin after thorough testing of the land at the various mining sites to determine the extent of pollution to assess the effort required in time and financial resources to treat a particular site. He said the reclamation project had already received offers from the international community with proposals to assist the country. He insisted, however, that each offer would be examined and scrutinised to ensure Ghana was not short-changed. hxxp://www.ghanalive For return to power, government need to spend 100 million dollars for reclaiming the land which destroyed by activities of illegal miners in the country, through the Multi-sectorial Mining Integrated Project (MMIP). Lands and Natural Resources (MLNR) is the five-year project which is an initiative taken by the Ministry. The project aimed at struggle ‘galamsey&rsqu During the Media Coalition against Galamsey (MCAG) and National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) 6th Town Hall Meeting, Dr. Isaac Karikari, the Project Lead, made this known in Bole in the Northern Region. He said that components of MMIP included; the reclamation and scattering of affected rivers, a review of legal framework with regards to the issuing of license, and provision of alternative livelihoods for people engaged in ‘galamsey&rsqu The MMIP Lead gave hint and said that, government had started signing Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) with collaborators, and also entering into Public Private Partnership (PPP) agreements through which the project would be funded. He explained that the PPP were organizations with their own funding, but wanted government to meet them half way by allowing them to mine and use the money to reclaim the land while the collaborators were companies who had their own money, and were doing something similar to what the Ministry was doing. Dr. Karikari said doing of reclamation was expensive, but assured that during the processes the amount would be increases from the gold that would be gotten leading to the reclamation of the lands. | kimboy2
10/12/2017 21:21 | She said mercury use is estimated to stand at 80 percent in the mining industry, but the difficulty to track its unauthorized distribution and use, is challenging partly due to the porous nature of Ghana’s borders, and the unwillingness of the users to disclose their suppliers. .................... | sea7
10/12/2017 19:00 | Gerard was reported as saying that the artisanal material may come from Ghana as well as international aources. Presumably some discussions are taking place. Kenya would be an obvious candidate. The Minamata convention seems to be driving activity. | kimboy2
10/12/2017 17:07 | The opportunity is huge in Ghana, there is so much that goldplat can be involved in, regarding the ASM clean up and processing, that it has the potential to generate significant revenues, with a modest outlay. There are some value enhancing projects in the pipeline, elution Ghana - should be in place. stage 3 kili additional contracts - south America TSF benoni Mercury clean up Ghana. There is plenty on the table at this time. | sea7
10/12/2017 08:54 | A 30tph concentrator will do 0.25mtpy. So if you took the Pretea deposit as an example it would take 6 years or so to get through the deposit. Depending on recovery rates the production per year could be 20kozs. If they produced a profit of a modest £100/oz the profit would be up to £2m pa. Clearly the opportunity is much larger than this and an announcement of a contract could have a significant effect on the share price The limiting factors may be competition, though I don't know of any. There is enough to go round several competitors though. In addition the question of how economic it would be. The gold is in the tailings the question wil be how much it would cost to extract contaminants. Perhaps the thing to do is start with the easiest. The other limiting factor is capex - how much is needed and how much is available. They will need a new CIL which may be $2m for a start. I would suspect that when it is all finished we would be looking at $5m. IMV that would be well affordable with current resources and a loan. Anyway we shall see. Other than saying it is potentially a major long term contract the company is saying little at this stage. | kimboy2
09/12/2017 21:46 | And this... The Prestea surface deposits are estimated to contain proven and probable mineral reserves of 1.69Mt of ore at an average grade of 2.24g/t. The contained gold is estimated to be 122,000oz. | sea7
09/12/2017 21:44 | One to start with.. Australian based minerals exploration company Signature Metals has announced a JORC resource for the old Konongo tailings dam, contained within the Konongo gold project in Ghana’s Ashanti gold belt. The resource is 1.75 million tonnes at a grade of 1.09 g/t gold for some 61,150 ounces of contained gold. | sea7
09/12/2017 21:24 | Yes a contract for 30km2 would do nicely. It would be intersting to know what gold grades they would get out of this. | kimboy2
09/12/2017 20:50 | It is a large job, cleaning up the mess there and will keep them occupied for a long time. Goldplats green credentials are key here and their status as preferred solution for miners to take waste to is still intact. That was one of the questions I asked in a conference call, which Hansie answered for me, by confirming that it was still the case. | sea7
09/12/2017 20:30 | I don't think that we will hear much about the stock dam till the negotiations are complete. Hopefully the big thing coming up will be the Ghana clear up, and we can't really blame the broker for not going into that as negotitations are continuing as well. They did do a similar clean up at Obuasi about 18 months ago IIRC. This would suggest that the bigger companies are not equipped to do the job, and put them in prime position. I would suspect that processing the tailings may be relatively cheap, compared to mining, though the government will require royalties. With this they will be able to sort out the rehabilitation in the communities. The real question is how many sites and how many tons are they going to process. The 3tph pilot plant, if the material processed was 3g/t, could produce 2.5kozs pa from 26kt. Clearly the outcome could be multiples of this. We will just have to remain patient. | kimboy2
09/12/2017 17:27 | it is of an annoyance that they do not make a bigger deal of the TSF on site in these VSA notes. You would have thought that they would have pointed out that this is "off balance sheet" and included some possible costing scenario's and oz per annum surrounding this asset. Most see goldplat as a utility, that being a downstream recycler of mine waste. They see it as a high cost operation, without being aware of the structure of the contracts and how it is relevant to the numbers. The company is niche, there is no other listed to compare it with and outfits like PAF and DRD which process tailings are not really great comparisons, although their operations are much easier to understand. Brokers reports are laughable at the best of times, when you see they copy and paste material from old reports that has been superseded, so I never rely on them totally, however, a lot do and this is one area that goldplat do have some control over and could push VSA a bit more. | sea7
09/12/2017 12:16 | TTT I just realised the only problem with filtering the evil minded dastardly duo Sly7 and KB2...... C is that there is very little to read here. I wonder if Dan will be back by Christmas.....I think he said he would be back when the LION hits 5P | 1rodson
