NEX up 10% and GOG up 6% But so far SGC up 1% SGC going to play catch up? Loads of beaten up value from COVID getting a nice bounce today, people going back to work and schools open …. SGC at the bottom of the range, can see a quick 20-30% bounce here pdq IMO

This isn't new, Since 1 April 2020 Southeastern (also most other TOC's as well). have been operating under an 'Emergency Measures Agreement' where the Department for Transport has taken on the cost and revenue risk involved in running the railway. Southern will continue to manage its patch under the direct award contract until 16 October 2021, with the option to extend 31 March 2022. Surely if the government is taking the revenue risk I'm wondering why the share price continues to drop.

GOG may get nationalised. Government offered train franchises a new deal with very little profit margins. Details of the deal should be published this week. That's why shares fell so much

Sheila's got a £15.57 price target on this stock. I'm backing her. Hope this begins to make some sense before it's too late to buy at these levels.

I'm bemused by this im down around 40% and when I bought I considered cheap. A solid company with a certain profit. Maybe after Septembers transport budget are sorted we see some kind of return. I only see them expanding their services over time due to their performance compared to competitors. Seems to be a sentiment that working from home and no travelling is here to stay aomething I dont believe in long term.

I’ve been unable to figure the continuing drop. As I understand it they have a certain level of revenue protected by government contracts. Mobility data from both Apple and Google shows quickly increasing public transport use. Strong presence in high demand areas of London, Oxford and Brighton. Good cash levels and many liabilities not due until 2024 so plenty of breathing space. I’m sure it’ll bounce in due course.

Maybe stories of rail services being nationalised this weekend as not viable presently in private hands. GOG forecast to make no money on rail franchises and so not sure how big a loss they would be.

GOG year-end estimates are basically saying that a full year of Feb/Mar Covid impact would be manageable and quite potentially stay in profit! They are looking at a profit of £60 million this year as it is. Their balance sheet is strong with good cash reserves and further access to liquidity in place. Looks a lot better than FirstGroup..

Why has this been on a downward trend for the last month ?No news & lockdown has been eased which should mean good news for them yet it's in reverse!Any thoughts ?

"Approximately 90% of total Group revenues are now derived from contracted markets where there is no direct revenue risk from changes in underlying travel demand."

Not sure. As I understand it a lot of their business is now cost plus, subsidised by governments. So there isn't the negative gearing of a drop in demand on a fixed cost base. Margins stay the same. But if the cost base is reduced (which it is) then the absolute profit also reduces. I may have got that completely wrong so don't rely on it :)

One thing I can’t fathom is if customer demand doesn’t affect their business particularly then why are they forecasting a drop in operating profit of 30-40%?

Thanks saurish. I bought as low as 420p, but see little reason to sell. My guess is - some naive hedge bot is having its backside handed to it, and struggling to unwind without taking a painful hit. But it's coming. ATB
