I do agree to the last exploration well on Rio Verde was a failure, but when it comes to Block 95 you also have Gran Tierra (the operator) pushing for the potential on the block and I would view them as very good exploration company. Secondly, light oil exploration in the Llanos basin has always been bumpy because of the relative small target structure. The Maranon basin is less explored but from the work which has been done its clear that the structures are much bigger in average and easier to map. Which makes me think that the probability of success on Block 95 is very high due to the previous successful well.

The stock will not preform until they deliver but if/when they do, the stock will most likely do very well because of the low free-float and current low interest in the stock from retail investor.

The last well was a dead cert too, until it proved a duster.

This is a great company for managing cash but when it comes to realising further value from assets it has yet to prove itself. Let's not get too carried away -:)

4 months to go until Gran Tierra will spud the exploration well on Block 95, which is owned to 40% by Global Energy Development. Due to the discovery made in 1974 by Amoco we know that this will be a discovery, the questions is just how big it will be. The minimum size is ~20m bbl gross and the maximum discovery is up to 150m bbl if the drilling in the deeper horizons is successful. In any case this will be a positive event for Global Energy. If the bull scenario comes in we are looking at 60m bbl net to Global in a country where the netback is in the range of $50/bbl, and to get to NPV per bbl its usually 50% of netback, so we are looking at $25/bbl. 60m bbl at $25/bbl, you can do the math. Global market cap is £37m, and they are already printing cash from current production.

The only thing we need to get the stock going is some positive news on Bocachico or Bolivar. Stock is very cheap (2012 P/E of 2.6x) but it seems like all most all investor is ignoring the stock as long as we don't have any incremental news.
Than in July/August we will have the drilling on Block 95, this is clearly a low risk well, drilling a delineation well in a previous discovery. When the result for this well comes in all investor around Gran Tierra (the operator of Block 95) will get excited and then investor will buy GED, the micro cap, with a 40% stake in the block.

The company will be doing a UK road show during the last week of March after the full year result has been released. I would think that it could be possible for them at that point to talk more about the Bolivar and Bocachico project as both expert reports on both project should be finalized at that time.

CHOPS result will probably not be out until April. Company will be reporting in the third week of March. Results should be solid and with a improved balance sheet. The company give some guidance on Bolivar when reporting, the study conducted on the previous wells by the third paarty consultant should be finalized at that point.

Chinese buying asset in Colombia

Colombia: Total sells assets for about 1 billion dollars
Paris, February 8, 2012: Total announces the signature of an agreement with Sinochem to sell TEPMA BV. This fully owned affiliate of Total holds a working interest in the Cusiana field as well as a participation in OAM and ODC pipelines in Colombia. Total share of production of Cusiana is around 7,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. This transaction is subject to approval by the relevant authorities. This sale follows a divestiture of a 5 % working interest in the Ocensa pipeline to Petrominerales and of another 5 % to Cepsa in July 2011. The combined value of the three transactions amounts to about US$ 1 billion.

"Disposing of these mature assets and positions in transportation infrastructures is in line with our ongoing asset optimization strategy and follows similar recent divestments such as the Gassled pipelines in Norway and mature fields in Cameroon" said Olivier de Langavant, Senior Vice President Strategy Business Development R&D at Total's Exploration-Production. "For Colombia, it will allow us to focus our expertise on exploration assets with higher potential.

There are also some smaller positives coming from the Llanos operation. They are currently producing 1500 bopd but the production capacity is higher, but due to the water-disposal issues they cant run the production at full rate. When they have reverted the Tilodiaran-2 well into a water disposal well they will be able to lift the production to at least 1800 bopd and possible close to 2000 bopd. The cost saving from having the water disposal well will also be significant, $5/bbl and each day it is about 2000 bbl of water, so the monthly saving will be $300k ($3.6m per year).

it looks like the future rests, at least in the short term, on successful results from the CHOPS technology, as this relates to 75% of 2P reserves. Once they prove the tech, this becomes a screaming buy. If they don't, then the share price is being supported by the remaining 25% and current production, so very little downside and still huge upside. Particularly liked the chart showing the potential increase in share price as production increases, and the current discount ratio between GED's value per bbl of production cf industry norm. This should be another source of increased share price Steady as she goes and please keep the share price at a reasonable price until GKP is taken over by XOM ;-) and I can sell out there!

They have replaced the 2006 CB ($11.3m) with a $12m long-term loan. And they have also a larger cash balance due to the cash generation from the llanos fields.

Lets hope that this week London road show get well received. I think they have a great equity story to tell. The only problem to attract institutional investor to the stock is the limited liquidity in the stock. However, it is a good sign that a fund manager like First Eagle is investing in the stock even thou they have more than $40bn of asset under management.

Steve Voss, Managing Director, commented, "The redemption of these notes reduces the short-term debt on our balance sheet and extinguishes all debt convertible into equity."

that's it then, all CLN's paid back. Seems that the BOD dont want to give away any part of the company!
