pallys - I don`t think Barclaystockbrokers did very much. The shares had to be put in my name on the ASX register when I declined their offer to transfer them into a BSB overseas account. After that the Australian Share Registry sent my share certificate(it`s called an "Issuer Sponsored Security Holder Statement"), rights forms, new ISSHS and agm forms by post. I filled in the relevent forms and sent them back by post or fax using my local banks fax machine.

"They said if I did not do this my shares would go by default to the ASX register. I did nothing and sure enough I received a certificate from Australia showing my Gip holding that was held on the ASX."

- Well you didn't really have to do anything then did you?
Because that isn't the same for all Brokers. Certainly not Selftrade, you have to liase with them to get your certificated holdings - whereas your broker did all the hard work for you!

Well done 'freds13'. So you have a fully certificated holding - bit of a rarity these days!

H-L did a good job for me so I am still holding mine in a nominee account.

Thanks mns, I'll give them a bell and see what they say about GIP certificates.

Having read the posts on here since GIP`s delisting, I gather that most brokers are useless. My shares were with Barclaystockbrokers and when I contacted them after the delisting they said I could open an overseas a/c with them, this had a £25 quarterly fee, and my Gip shares could be transfered into it but I could only trade in this a/c by phone. They said if I did not do this my shares would go by default to the ASX register. I did nothing and sure enough I received a certificate from Australia showing my Gip holding that was held on the ASX. Shortly afterwards I received a form to fill in if I wanted to participate in the rights issue. This I did and got my bank to fax the completed form and the cash to the stated address. No problem - I received a new certificate with the additional shares added to my original shares. Yesterday I received a Gippsland proxy form to vote at the AGM. All very smooth sailing.
My point being that it can be better to do things yourself than rely on incompetent office staff at your broker. Anything out of the ordinary seems to be beyond them.

Ah yes, Selftrade messed up one of my holdings too - all they have to do is add the SRN but it seems that was too tricky. Only just go the paperwork through for that one, bit late now!

Apart from Natwest could anyone else recommend another broker who can accept these Aus GIP certificates and then trade them when I want to sell? (If they also trade bonds on the interbank market that would be even better)

I haven't got my certificate either. Selftrade apparently didn't fill their form in properly and it was rejected by the Australian Register (missing CRN number whatver that is).

MnS,

Yes, pretty much my take as well. Lot's of potential, but still we have to wait for the Germans to come off the fence.

I did find the reference to their attendance at TIC interesting, particularly as they mentioned "the home of Tantalum/Niobium and rare earth processor and refiner Silmet As" - perhaps a slight tilt at Starck there?

China GDP came out at 8.9% and US GDP just came out at 3.5% ... so for now the global economic recovery story seems to be intact ... we just need that financing and we are home and dry

SC, exactly! Although more a hill than a mountain.

And it is consistent and contiguous - about as good as it gets.

AS I understand it, GIP's Tantalum is largely in a MOUNTAIN -and thus above ground .

Surely the ore could therefore be extracted more readily and quickly

--and furthermore -- from day ONE ,

than other sources of the buried stuff!

MnS,

Under the original scheduling it was c. 23 months from start of construction to commissioning.

I am not sure about that blog. It does sound like JT but I really don't think he would write it as an executive of a listed company.

But whoever actually wrote it, I have to agree with their sentiments. I am totally sick of the N.American media bias towards Commerce Resources and the total exclusion of the GIP alternative.

If true it says production commencing 2012

Take away from that date the time it will take to build the mine and you have a wild stab in the dark of when they might get the financing

I can't recall how long GIP said it would take to build the mine
