01/9/2010 17:57 | Technical support services of Deloitte Australia at GIP? 1. The Accounting Standards Board of Canada (the "AcSB") has approved a plan for the adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards ("IFRS") for financial years commencing on or after January 1, 2011 for all publicly accountable profit-oriented enterprises. source Anvil Mining 2. The Australian Accounting Standards Board - AASB continues to mirror changes made by the IASB as local pronouncements. In addition, over recent years, the AASB has issued so-called 'Amending Standards' to reverse some of the initial changes made to the IFRS text for local terminology differences, to reinstate options and eliminate some Australian-specific disclosure. There are some calls for Australia to simply adopt IFRS without 'Australianising' them and this has resulted in the AASB itself looking at alternative ways of adopting IFRS in Australia source Wikipedia | vanbrussel

31/8/2010 07:18 | Excellent Tin Results from Heemskirk Drilling - Drilling at the near surface Queen Hill deposit at Zeehan in Tasmania has confirmed continuity of high grade tin mineralization over potentially mineable widths. - Drilling during the early 1980s identified three tin deposits, Queen Hill, Severn and Montana. Queen Hill is the focus of the current phase of exploration as it crops out at the surface, has not been fully drilled out close to the surface nor has it been fully tested for metallurgical performance. - Figure shows interpretative geology for drill section 3025 (also identified in Figure 1). ZQ96 has returned the best assay results to date with a 21m down‐hole intersection grading 0.8% tin from 86m. The Queen Hill Tin Lode also contains high grade zones with 3m at 1.9% tin from 90m being the best. Assays for ZQ97 are pending - Sulphide mineralogy suggests that there were several pulses of mineralisation with Clarkes Lode representing a late stage emplacement of sulphides within the black shale unit. Historic mining near the surface targeted Clarkes Lode but did not follow it down at depth. However, ZQ97 shows that the mineralisation at this level can be quite rich with an 8m down‐hole intersection assaying 3.1% lead and 161g/t silver within which occurs a 2m zone of 1.7% tin, 2.0% copper and 350g/t silver | vanbrussel
30/8/2010 13:16 | chipperfd Thank you for your thoughtful contribution. I was naive enough when I bought my GIP shares at about 4.5p two years ago to accept the Take-Off agreement at face value. So, I suppose, did most of us. Starck, Cabot and the Chinese seem to have a stranglehold on the tantalum market but I am syrpised that the the restrictions on tainted tantalum there seems to be so little interest in the Abu Dabbab project. Being a glutton for punishment I have recently bought some shares in NVTA.At least their mine is up and running ! | varies
30/8/2010 12:30 | SC, Perhaps there will be another placing. They certainly cannot continue indefinitely without further working capital. But you need to recognise that events are outside the control of GIP or JT. They cannot proceed on AD until they have financing, and they cannot get financing without off-take agreements in place at a price that makes the whole project economic. As there is a small cartel of processors that determine Ta price and off-takes (and that cartel was responsible for shutting down Talison's 30% of world primary supply) there would not appear to be much that GIP can do to influence events. I am still holding, but I think this whole episode is a salutary lesson in looking beyond specific project economics when considering investments in rare/speciality metals. I certainly made the mistake of focussing on the potential project economics without full consideration of the business realities facing miners in a narrow market who are totally reliant on receiving a 'fair' price from a very small grouping of speciality processors. It has become very clear that the risks involved with rare metals go far beyond those miners who supply the broader range of base metals (or even gold & silver) because their output can be sold into multiple markets and at prices set by international spot prices. Certainly a harsh lesson has been learned and I will be far more cautious in future when dealing with anything of a speciality nature in the metals sector. I am being especially wary of the Rare Earth Elements because of the almost total domination by China in the processing and manufacturing space for those metals. Chip | chipperfrd
30/8/2010 11:48 | GIP-I remain convinced that the recent activity is merely a precursor to Jack's begging bowl coming out again ! Please give me some more money as I'm not ready to dig up the Tantalumm this year or next ......but I will be in 2013 possibly, definitely ,maybe..... or not.... -SC | shadowchaser
27/8/2010 22:27 | Well,Mark, if you are right in the interpretation and assumption of a pattern of trades, assuming also that it is the same buyer, these are large chunks of cash to shell out on a mere 'hunch'. Strange days are these ... SC | shadowchaser
27/8/2010 20:00 | Nope ... but the largish buyer was back in Aus and pushed the price back up 16% to 0.05 They have popped up 4 times in August and each time they are in the market the volume spikes to about 1.5 Million shares They obviously think something is about to happen ... the question is are they right? | marksnsparkle

23/8/2010 14:49 | A 10 year Reserve, a NI 43-101 in a couple of months. One wonders, even a moderate power freak would have advanced the project years ago I suppose that's not the Egyptian way, Effendi Telford all the way... | vanbrussel
23/8/2010 14:12 | re. the resources: Some are given in ppm, some in %s and some in g/t - which can be confusing! Marropino has 11.02mt @ 234ppm (which equates to 0.023% or 234g/t). So they have 5.69mlbs Ta of indicated and inferred resource (but note this is non-complient for NI43-101 and is based on historic data). AD has 40mt @ 0.0243% in a measured, indicated & inferred resource for 21.4mlbs Ta. But they also have 79.4mlbs tin plus Feldspar in that same resource - so value per tonne is much higher. AD also has a categorised reserve of 14.6mt @ 260g/t for 8.7mlbs Ta (plus tin, etc). Chip | chipperfrd

23/8/2010 13:34 | For my comparison of GIP with NVTA I am trying to work out how many GIP shares are in issue. The figure is harder to find from GIP's web-site than I would have expected and I would be grateful for some guidance. The presentation in April 2008 showed a figure of 293.7 million. 80 million were issued very cheap to Mr. Gandel and some to other directors in lieu of wages. Then there was a Rights Issue of 2 for 7. Would 500 million be about right ? If so, the market cap. is c.A$24m @ 4.8c, say £14m. (I am ignoring options as most will be far out of the money). The market cap. of NVTA @7p is about £18m. The grades at Abu Dabbab and Marropino seem similar but the AD resource is 4 times bigger. GIP owns only 50% of this. For those who want a punt on a tantalum mine, NVTA would seem to have the edge as it is at least in production ! | varies |
