So you don't expect punters to speculate and add a few in the hope of a 50% premium bid? I am sorely tempted.

If one or more of these huge well funded vultures sees strategic value in acquiring GBG to match up with a US based player, well even if the board is minded to rebuff all offers there is always a price shareholders will be tempted by.

Surprised the share price hasn't surged today, it will.

I do like that optimism. I'm a half empty guy and I expect all offers to collapse after due diligence or MMC intervention!

I expect offers in the £8-£9 region but with with multiple interested parties anything can happen - hopefully something crazy for the holders!

I would expect GBG to only consider bids based on future markets which will have more positive stability.

If there is a bidding war I would expect us to see an offer in the £10 region.

Hah! "According to The Mail on Sunday"

Now we need The Mail to cite "press reports".

If this is more than rumour then Advent should be obliged to file a statement.

Even if it is just rumour I still expect a charge up tomorrow.

"according to sources"

Talk of more than one interested bidder can only be good news, even if this is only speculation.

Mail on Sunday: US private equity predator Advent International is considering a swoop on fraud prevention software specialist GB Group, prompting speculation there could be a bidding war; others said to be interested are Hg, KKR, Cinven and Permira.

In regard to my question on all the share moves with Barclays Jeffries etc. it looks as though these are Call and or Strike options I got bored part way through so don't fully understand but think they mitigate the bidder from exposure kind of like CFDs... I'm not certain though to complex for me

Ahh they'd love to get an offer in promptly now that the market has tanked! Like purchasing property on a miserable Feb day - always curbs the asking price!

I agreee. I don't think they would even consider any bid under 900p.

I'm trying to understand the thinking behind this putative bid. I don't see how GBG fits into the GTCR portfolio. Maybe they were looking at Acuant when it was bought by GBG and now they see a way to pick it up at a cheaper price. I certainly think they won't be keeping GBG as it is. Looking at the serried ranks of frat boys (and a few girls) at GTCR where even the colour of your suit seems to be limited to grey or blue, the cultural fit with the relatively diverse outfit at GBG seems very limited.

I will be very surprised if their advance is given anything other than a "get lost" by the GBG board

Looking at the average bid percentage for uk tech firms, it seems to settle around 40-45% which would imply around 7.3ish when the bid was announced. I ageee with an earlier post that anyone below 7.25 would be rejected because of the recent placing. Also pound is heavily in favour of the dollar so even 7.25 would look like a bargain for a US company considering the amount saved simply on currency exchange.

Not sure the offer will come in today...still a bit early. If it does I bet it will be after 4.30pm.

Well those who purchased early days are winners no matter what but I think there comes a time when you gotta weigh up the moment & right now is a pivotal moment for GBG with the potential offer & all this happening in depressed market conditions - the short-term share price surge is hard not to take advantage of all things considered! There could be no offer & again there could be a rival offer! I already sold some & will sell some more on any further significant surge's but will also replenish if in worst scenario it tanks - which it sure will if there are no offers! As I said in a previous post GBG is well positioned to achieve on its own steam but right now & especially considering the current neg market conditions, selling off a few shares on any further surge's makes sense to me ?
