epo001, during covid we saw the impact on GW of the lockdowns loss of income, and the loss of eateries, pubs, shops, etc. High energy costs is now extending the misery for some. GW was certainly impacted and this is reflected in the share price On the whole, I believe we are in a better place than in 2020 and 202!. The USA is a big market for GW.

fenners66,

I use Freightos.com. I registered (for free) and they send me via email a weekly update of shipping costs on the main routes around the world.

Meanwhile, vaguely back on topic, many small UK businesses are finding their energy bills going up 5-fold and are having to consider shutting their doors. May not affect games shops but cafes, pubs, chip shops and other heavy users will not be able to pass on costs. It's their kids who would have been GAW customers.

My neighbours a couple of doors down used to own/run a busy cafe in a posh bit of Edinburgh, they sold it a couple of years back about 6 months before lockdown, they must be delirious at having dodged those bullets. This is worse than the 70s, these places will not come back and how many vape shops do we really need?

New Zealand has stepped up its electricity generation from renewables. This week, 93% of the nations electricity came from renewables, with 73% of that generated from Hydro. We've had a lot of rain this winter. In recent years we had droughts and had to import coal from overseas. We still need more generation from Wind and Solar to improve.

Solar panels on homes are rare in New Zealand. There are no subsidies or Govt grants. In 2011, I remember standing in a village house in Yorkshire looking out of the kitchen window and every house had the same solar roof panels.

I had forgotten the rather middle class nature of our customers, good point, and also about recession.

Our (UK) autumn is coming soon. Back in May we decided to max out the roof with solar panels and augment the system with batteries. That is seeming like such a smart move right now, have bought virtually no electricity in 3 months. Obviously less effective for about 2 months of winter but it won't be nothing. Another battery on order.

Crystal ball time. It is going to be a long, hard, and skint winter for many in Europe and if there was ever a perfect example of unnecessary disposable income products it is those made by GAW.

So how are energy price increases (some say the problem could last 5-10 years) likely to affect GAW sales? A quick google search suggests that Continental Europe and the UK amount to about half of sales. Is this now priced in?

Kiwis were in Los Angeles for the Amazon LOTR Red Carpet Premiere. They say many attendees dont know the Series was filmed in New Zealand.

I've realised that after Edison updates the daily Close price on its GW page, they also change the Last Updated date.

It seems the Edison page for GAW was updated 19.08.2022 but no forecasts/target price is provided.

Hi Nod,

It wasn't a typo. I've just had another look and they appear to use both Asia to US East Coast routes and Asia to West Coast routes fairly equally. HK to Savanna in Georgia and to Long Beach in California being the most used.

Approx 70% of US imports come from the UK with 30% coming from Asia.

Everyone is affected YoY by higher fuel costs. Shipping costs falling MoM would be positive.

Asia US East Coast ? did you mean Asia to US West Coast ? - the cost should have decreased MoM with lower cost across the Pacific and now significantly more shipping operations directly out of Shanghai.

I monitor the shipping costs, Asia to Europe and Asia US East Coast have certainly dropped YoY but are still well above historic levels.

Recently North Europe to US East Coast rates have been firming again and are ahead YoY which isn't ideal.

Hopefully there will be a more sustained drop.

There's good news coming from around the globe that shipping costs are falling. Here in New Zealand we are a highly dependent importer and exporter. A recent quote:< The region's importers and exporters will benefit from an increased supply of shipping space and regular visits to the region after being hit hard by dramatic increases in freight costs, space availability on ships, and delayed or cancelled vessels >

Yes, I'm hoping for a new generation of youngsters embracing Tolkien, LOTR and The Hobbit. The gap between the third LOTR movie and the first Hobbit movie was 9 years. This introduced new recruits to GW and a renewed interest in the LOTR models. The Amazon series will be around 8 years after the third Hobbit movie.

Technically not the same IP as the Amazon license explicitly excludes the Peter Jackson world of LOTR, but will revive the interest in the 2000s LOTR stuff so positive for GAW.
