So Yank- do you ever get hold of the powers that be, or the company to discuss your concerns, or do you just write on a bulletin board full of people actually investing in the company who see it as a good investment? Asking for a friend!

Fledgling1nvestor, if FDEV knew to cost-in these product cancellations in the January guidance, then the the fact they didn't announce the fact means they concealed the fact, and that is itself a breach of AIM rules.

The bottom line is last year FDEV announced to the market Elite Dangerous for Microsoft and Playstation. This year they cancelled both products and concealed this from the market. Blatant breach of AIM rules.

It's not like consoles are a huge part of the playerbase on Elite Dangerous. There were already community estimates being made on reddit that the console playerbase was around 20% of the whole at best.

"The game's top YouTuber" (you know you can probably just use his name) even ran a poll to see if that estimate was about right and only 21% of those polled were solely console players.

Most of these players will still be on the older generation machines due to the slow rollout of current generation consoles. It's clearly impractical to try and make Odyssey work on decade old consoles and the owner base of newer generation machines isn't anywhere near the point it makes it feasible to make Odyssey an exclusive to them either.

They made the right call from a business perspective and surely that's the only important factor here. That the management is making the tough calls for the benefit of the business.

As to announcing the decision here. They may not have made the ultimate decision to cancel further console development until early March but the board would certainly have known it was a distinct possibility when they posted their updated guidance on January 12th and it's highly likely they erred on the side of caution and costed this very scenario into it.

If their revised guidance of January 12th is still good then there is no need to post an update.

Fledgling1nvestor, this is not failing announce a product. This is failing to disclose the cancellation of a product. Two products actually. Two major products.

Here's the AIM rule that FDEV has breached.

11. An AIM company must issue notification without delay of any new developments which are not public knowledge which, if made public, would be likely to lead to a significant movement in the price of its AIM securities. By way of example, this may include matters concerning a change in:

— its financial condition;
— its sphere of activity;
— the performance of its business; or
— its expectation of its performance.

"gross breach of AIM rules"

There is no rule that states a listed company must announce every single product they intend to sell at some point in the future to the Regulatory News Service.

What they do need to do is ensure the market is kept informed of material changes to published revenue projections. They can cost unannounced products into that data and provide further information on it later. It's clearly not launching this fiscal year, more likely at the tail end of this calendar year.

I was wrong in my assumption that they would choose to announce it, big whoop.

"it's obviously going to be going out in an RNS update at 7am tomorrow morning".
said FledglingInvestor on FDEV's failure to disclose cancellations of its long-overdue releases of Elite Dangerous for Microsoft and Playstation consoles.

That was two weeks ago. Still no disclosure. Another blatant breach of AIM rules by FDEV.

The game's top YouTuber has just put out an in-depth analysis. "Elite Dangerous. It feels like a sinking ship". youtube.com/watch?v=H9Ns6syI_Ys

From the comments "The main problem I see is the more they drag out the long, slow death of Dangerous, the more they're hurting the chances of a successor."

I know bb2 but he/she is not always wrong.
Rode this from 1.98 to 30+ and got out before peak.
Story not over yet, just considering what next and potentially when it might occur.
Down, not down & out.

p1nk, I'm almost certain that YH has his/her own agenda here and is suffering extreme negative bias toward the co, irrespective of the facts. Always accentuating and putting an angle on the negative then ignoring the positive.

I can't remember ever seeing a balanced positive post, although don't follow the BB to the letter.

No, something that steers them out of the way of bigger competition. Looking at recent devleopments who wants to be on a major console and expect to remain independent (?) & PC is not the be all and end all too.

Expect some interesting developments in the next 6-12 months.

I'm probably wrong but have read up a lot and engaged my "business" brain.

These changes are not happening by accident, there is a deliberate something going on.

Just imho, dyor etc.

"I suspect there is something up FDEVs sleeve"

Gangrene?

Four flops in a row and now this. And it's not just consoles Odyssey that's cancelled. It is all ED console development. How's Braben going to hide the asset impairment in the next accounts, I wonder.

Worth a read are the comments on the reports of the game's few remaining youtubers.

Elite Dangerous - All Console Development CANCELLED!

Is this the END of Elite Dangerous?!

Summed up by "Frontier is a bunch of liar clowns and fully incompetent. A disgrace in the industry for how they work and how they communicate."

However, I suspect there is something up FDEVs sleeve having read up on a few things.

Fledgling1nvestor, had you stopped to think WHY he announced after the market closed?

Anyway, "going out tomorrow morning" is still a breach of the rules. The rules say he must tell the market first.

This is not the first time Braben has broken disclosure rules and I'm sure it is not a mistake.

yankhanson

Clearly no mistake has been made because it's impossible to make trades after the market is already closed. It was obviously timed to be made outside of trading hours for that very purpose.

Braben has more experience than make that rooky mistake.

Perhaps because he posted on the forum AFTER the market closed and it's obviously going to be going out in an RNS update at 7am tomorrow morning before the market reopens. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

You're such a drama queen Yank.

FDEV CEO David Braben has just revealed to customers that all development on the long-overdue Xbox and Playstation versions of the current Elite Dangerous edition is cancelled.

Unsurprisingly, he failed to notify the market.
