she-ra, how old are you as a matter of interest? You sound like an 8 year old.....no offence intended to an 8 year old!

she-ra , sorry to have bothered you, I`ll go and post on CR`s thread.

Like FRENCHFRY this malarky is not that important to me and just keeps things in perspective.

Luck to you with your investments

She-ra, I disagree. A little light diversion reminds us that investing should be a fun pastime. If you're not enthused by such posts, then simply skip them...or go watch University Challenge.

Anyone think Next might want French Connection to get into the mid-range luxury market? They did buy Lipsy in 2008 and they only other acquisition was Grattan in 1986.

------------------------

I don't think that's quite accurate historically, she-ra. Grattan definitely wasn't Next's only other acquisition.

It may be long forgotten now, but when George Davies was in charge at Next, roughly throughout the 1980s, he went on a bonkers buying spree which nearly brought the company down. I worked for Next from 1986 to 2012, and just some of the companies bought included (and I'm working from memory here): Combined English Stores, Timothy Whites chemists, Eurocamp Holidays, some place in Norfolk that grew and sold flowers and seeds which I forget the name of, Dillons newsagents and Zales jewelers.

NEXT figs look good. Even High St shows a pick up.

"Next has reported a 12% increase in profits for the last year to £695m.

The fashion retailer also reported a 5.4% growth in sales for the 12 months to the end of January.

Sales via its online and catalogue business, Next Directory, grew by more than 12%, with sales at its stores growing by 1.7%.

Next has also forecast sales growth of up to 8% this year, raising its previous estimate of 4%. And it expects profits in 2014 to rise by up to £770m."

Just wonder whether they could really push sales through their 'labels' website. They could also develop Toast,Great Plains and YMC helping all three reach a wider audience.
