30/5/2002 10:36 | Pommy: where did you get those odds for Pauleta? | barman92
30/5/2002 10:16 | Zidane is out the first 2 games, but he should be ready for what is likely yo be the group decider vs Denmark. I think they should have strength in depth enought o overcome his absense, but i do fancy a bit of an upset vs Senegal, revenge over the colonial masters!!! Spain HAVE to come good one day, but as i implied earlier they had their chance in 82 at home. The world cup is a strange event, pedigree counts for everything as does home advantage and given that we probably have the weakest hosts ever, you would have to look at the pedigree teams of Brazil (who on form I really cant fancy), Germany (as Brazil), and Italy! | pommy
30/5/2002 07:43 | pommy Is Zidane still out? Bound to affect France if he is. I know they have depth but they must miss the worlds finest player who, incidentally, scored goal of the season on his wrong foot in the CL final. I'm not sure about Spain. Raul is deadly but Spain always seem competent but not likely winners imo. Not long now. Rob | robbb
30/5/2002 07:26 | Dil, you can check for all the best prices at Best Odds are 14/5 at or | pommy
29/5/2002 22:04 | pommy : whats the best odds I can get for Sweden on Sunday ? Cheers Dil | dil
29/5/2002 21:54 | Ive only had one bet, on Pauletta at 40/1 for top goal scorer. I do fancy Senegal to provide a bit of a shock on Friday if only a draw!! To win, its hard to see past France, but Spain are due a good competition. But it does always seem that if the home team dont win ( and there is no way they will) its one of Brazil, Germany or Italy! Oh Lord its only 38 hours and 36 mins to go!!! | pommy
29/5/2002 16:20 | C'mon pommy own up. Who have you bet on. Its not like you to be shy in ramping no-hopers :-) | robbb
29/5/2002 13:37 | Likely face Uruguay?, what about Denmark? What about France? France wouldnt be the first holders to not top their group in the next world cup!!! (only 2 of last 9 have) And if they dont many teams thinking they would be in the other side of the draw will start to sweat a little. I can see plenty of shocks in this world cup, if you think an Asian or African victory is a shock ( i mean game win not tourny win) The gap is closing between Euro/S. AMerica and Asia/Africa, and the weather may well play into the hands of the underdogs! | pommy
28/5/2002 11:51 | I don't think Argentina are very good value. They may top Group F, but will likely face Uruguay (100-1) as runners up in Group A. Uruguay have beaten Argentina twice in the last 12 months.............. France v Italy final @ 7-1 will do for me. | ttjohnson
28/5/2002 11:33 | There is a handy results spreadsheet that you can download from | glads
28/5/2002 00:37 | 64 matches I think in total. 139 = average 2.17 goals per match. 180 = average 2.81 gpm. 160 = 2.5 gpm. Hard to call, but it looks to me that 139 or less is slightly better value all told than 180+. 160-164 a bit narrow a band. I'd be interested to know what statistics come from previous world cups and continental cup competitions. | barman92
27/5/2002 16:16 | Pommy is that penalties or are you referring to the autographs that they have been writing??? Got to draw the game first to get to Penalties!! (After escaping the group), I am like MTG expecting the worse hoping for better! PitBull | pitbull
27/5/2002 15:14 | Slacker, MTG I cant see England being beaten, theyve practiced pens this time!! ;-)) | pommy
27/5/2002 13:47 | Same here Slacker; maintaining low expectation but hoping they might possibly, maybe, perhaps, surprise us on the upside. No more confident than that. | m.t.glass
27/5/2002 13:29 | France looked a class act yesterday. Cant really see them getting beat but fancy flutter on Brazil, they could come good with Ronaldo coming back in to form, and odds are very attractive. England again were a complete shambles.. but I suppose we have to give Sven the benefit.. He must be following some sort of plan where he does not want the team to peak too early and improve as the tournament progresses (this normally works well for teams like Italy and Argentina). The problem is that with the group that England have they can't afford a slow start. I personally dont give them much of a chance. | slacker
27/5/2002 13:23 | 80 and below 81-110 111-140 141-170 171-200 above 200 these are possibly better bands of predictions with . went for 171-200 , alot of leaky defences seen so far enjoy | mealiff

26/5/2002 21:09 | Appologies for the unadulterated advertising but: World Cup competition thread: I'd really like to get enough ADVFNers ( as many as the TFFO ) so we can have a reasonable league. Gives everyone a chance to pit their wits agaist Edz again, or if he doesn't enter, a chance!! Go on, Go on Go on you know you want to!! PitBull | pitbull
26/5/2002 21:07 | World Cup Finalists France v Italy 7/1 Argentina v Italy 8/1 France v Spain 10/1 Argentina v Spain 11/1 Brazil v Italy 14/1 Argentina v Portugal 18/1 France v Portugal 18/1 Brazil v Spain 18/1 England v Italy 20/1 | kd1

26/5/2002 18:28 | Coming from Terry Butcher that's a compliment! ;-) TP | the player
26/5/2002 11:46 | Terry Butcher on 5 Live described some of the Cameroon tackling as "agricultural". Could be a dirty World Cup. GREAT!!!;-> | farnesbarnes
26/5/2002 10:59 | 26 May 2002, 10:13 Seoul - Tokyo PAULETA seals Portugal win by Real Madrid star Luis Figo made a quick appearance as Portugal handed China a fairly simple 2-0 in a friendly from Macau. Goals from Nuno Gomes and striker supreme Pauleta saw the Iberian hopefuls earn a positive result in the final run-up to the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan. A costly error from China 'keeper An Qi allowed Nuno Gomes to grab the opening goal in the 50th minute. Despite threatening and looking dangerous in the first half, China had no answer for the talented Europeans as Pauleta delivered the knockout punch in the 61st minute. Not-quite-fit Real Madrid star Luis Figo came on for a quick appearance in the match, and the day belonged to Portugal all the way a good boost ahead of their impending Group D encounters with The United States, Poland and co-hosts Korea. | pommy
26/5/2002 10:49 | Anyone got any views on total goals. Spreadbetters are offering 160-163 total goals within 90 minutes (64 games). I reckon there's room to short this. Views? | prophylactic |
