25/9/2002 13:42 | hullo, now that fins are offering online stops and limit orders is there much between them and D4free apart from the spreads? | artful_todger
12/9/2002 20:59 | You must need them otherwise you would simply stop using them. | maplinrover
12/9/2002 15:17 | fins internet tradin down ??? | errol6429
19/8/2002 14:51 | Cant get a quote from Fins...is it switched off again? | saghir786
11/8/2002 19:15 | Its not only the Dow cash that is extended in the direction they think the price will go - check out the commoditity futures contract prices. On commodities Fins take a massive spread and then extend the price as well. They say that the bid/offer spread is exactly even across the particular futures contract price they are quoting - this is not true. For example look at Soyabean Meal September contract price which in addition to the bid/offer spread the price is extended over USD 10. It needs a major rally to break even and to make a profit we need a catcalysmic event like a serious drought, planet killer asteroid, or massive volcano to erupt. I agree a lot what has been said above these Spreadbetters are great for practicing techniques but if you want you seriously trade you need to open an account in the USA. For example check out Alaron.com, Smartfutures.net, dtfutures.com - the service is fantasic, cheap, customer friendly, no cheating, no tricks. Sorry Fins, cmc, IG etc but I think your days are numbered, it is rumoured that these US companies are looking for partners in the UK so things will improve for us traders in the very near future. | richyrich
11/8/2002 16:47 | If fins are anything like cmc they are making the dow virtually untradeable for very short term trading. They are doing it on purpose as they have lost loads of cash during these last few weeks to short term traders as they have been unable to hedge the bets they receive quick enough. A nice man from CMC told me that they would prefer it if the short term DOW traders went elsewhere as it would save them money. | jaygar
11/8/2002 16:38 | is there a site for the DOW futures (real time)and free, charts etc, fins allways say it's the futures, | scussy
08/8/2002 11:21 | 'you attempt to obtain a quote too frequently,' I love this one. Dont fins want people to trade a lot ? ITs like they are trying to get rid of customers ! LOL. | errol6429
08/8/2002 11:17 | The problem is, errol6429 as I posted on the other fins thread, they delay the quoting/price sometimes up to 1 min, they then give you 1 or 2 seconds to respond which not even enough to click buy/sell, and as a long time passes the circumstances change you need to have a look at the real price when they give you the quote to compare, when you attempt to do so msg says price no longer available, so you have to ask for another quote that means either a pop up msg saying "you attempt to obtain a quote too frequently, etc." or another long waiting, by that time Dow will probably be at the end of its move if not a second one, and spread may have swung both ways a couple times by not less then 10 points...by doing that Fins leaving you no choice but trade blindly and be the victim of their sharp and abrupt spread swings... the whole point on trading online is obtaining instant quotes and fills, and Fins have no intention to provide that for us, in fact they making it worse day by day... | saghir786
08/8/2002 10:40 | Anyone else having probs ? | errol6429
31/7/2002 00:54 | lol - Its so they can rewire the server after the cleaning lady decided that it needed a good dusting (and accidentally destroyed the circuit board with her can of furniture polish). | errol6429
31/7/2002 00:52 | Has the FINS office been hit be an asteroid or something ? | errol6429
31/7/2002 00:52 | They estimate another 10 minutes (not guaranteed) - maybe the cleaning lady spilt coffee down the back of it ! | qwento
31/7/2002 00:48 | FINs have obviously decided to disconnect the server or something. Perhaps they have an overzealous cleaning lady. | errol6429
31/7/2002 00:41 | Twiddle your thumbs time again - server unavailable ! | qwento
31/7/2002 00:40 | anyone having trouble with fins ? | errol6429
28/7/2002 22:03 | Don't get me wrong - I like the Fin spreads service generally. I just think that it could be soooo much better. | errol6429
28/7/2002 21:32 | (And sodding AdvFN's infinite blank pages aren't much better either, especially when they cause double posts!) | zzaxx99
28/7/2002 18:05 | sjcsystems - I take great exception to your criticism. Finspreads has been HOPELESS recently - stick your head in the sand if you want to but the number of posts on this thread speaks for itself. I am totally dissatisfied with their service and am actively seeking alternatives as indeed by the sounds of it are others. If you do work or advise on their software systems I would get your finger out and make sure it works as intended. You only have to watch the DOW quotes in periods of volatility to predict when the system is about to go off-line. Maybe they ought to run a spread as to how many times the server is going to be unavailable in any 24 hour period - that's if you can get on to make a bet ! Face facts, the attempt to second guess the market fails in grand style when the market is volatile. For longer-term financial futures swing trading then Fins is probably OK - that's if you want to run the risk that you will not be able to close your position on a market turn. For FTSE/DOW intra-day traders it is a waste of time - you are not betting on the market you are betting on what price Fins is second guessing the market. The 4/6 point spreads can rapidly turn into 20/50 point spreads as the prices are skewed. Shambles just about sums it up ! My opinion of the market, long, hang-on Fins quote has just leapt 50 points ahead of the market - short then ! | qwento
28/7/2002 16:15 | maybe those that jibe at Finspreads have time to post because they can't trade? You did say that all they post is 'finspreads is down again'!! Have a good weekend anyway, you are an admirable firefighter! | rdj20 |
