28/7/2002 16:07 | No I'm not suggesting that at all. You're opinion is actually very valuable to me, as any criticism of a constructive nature is. My original jibe was at those who continuously moan about Finspreads on here, and that obviously these people don't have time to do any investing themselves as they are always posting up/down/round and round messages here. Nothing is perfect, which includes things I do of course, including my investments which I've bailed out of mostly. Finspreads is not a shambles, far from it. The only reaction from the other spread firms so far to online orders is from one that has released new software and widened their spreads to pay for it. Perhaps no other firms other than Finspreads and CMC get mentioned here because the others don't have clients that are prepared to make themselves heard? Anyway, let's enjoy the weather while we can - it won't last. Simon | sjcsystems
28/7/2002 16:00 | Simon, I can't believe you are seriously suggesting that it is ok for spread betting companies to just close up shop when they are not sure which way the market will turn- especially given clients are exposed to the market and unable to adjust positions. If they hedged positions properly they wouldn't have this problem but then again greed and prudence are unhappy bed fellows! Shall we discuss the weather now? Would that make you feel better rather than face the reality of the shambles that is Finspreads in my personal opinion (gained from experience!)? | rdj20
28/7/2002 15:50 | I am trying to ascertain your opinion on the markets, as this board is populated by some of the hottest around (like croc), and also by some other less desirable people. May I remind you that all spread betting companies have to maintain a service to their clients, and that means ensuring that they themselves are not exposed to the markets in an adverse manner. Of course, this is going to coincide with periods of peak volatility. I have spent a lot of time recently working on exactly these points to make it faster and easier to understand. I'm sure you'd be the first to complain if one of the big spread firms went under because they did not have an adequate risk management system. Volumes in the last week have spiralled to new highs almost every day, again associated with market turns and large movements. So can we get back to my original point: what is your opinion of the markets at the moment, rather than reading post after post about it's down, it's up, it's down - sounds like Tom Hougaard and his tide tables!! FYI, I think their will be a short-term rally this week, until the banks announce their figures then it will be down again. Simon | sjcsystems
28/7/2002 15:33 | It is irrelevant whether I have ANY positions open at all. The fact of the matter is, that (I am sure most people agree) FINS performance over the last couple of weeks has been pretty disgraceful; what with the 'unavoidable' system shutdowns at peak volatility, increasingly whip-sawing spreads etc. Already, a lot of people on this board have sought out OTHER SPREAD-BETTING companies as an alternative to FINS. Therefore I think my posts, and my argument is entirely justified and backed up with a substantial weight of evidence. | errol6429
28/7/2002 15:27 | I was away last week, seems to me errol6429 that you spend more time on here telling people finspreads site is not working than almost anything else. Tell me, what are you long and short in at the moment, as obviously someone with the amount of time on your hands that you have must have some cast-iron investments in place, lol? 19/7/2002 22:14 | Thanks taxmania, Will investigate further. I normally just lurk and learn on Advfn, and have no intentions of getting into feuds, but today was just too damn frustrating. Will calm down and go back to lurking ... | mr garibaldi
19/7/2002 21:57 | Gari , i have no wish to step on cheeve's toes or fins for tha matter but.. the figures i have quoted are for d4free spreadbet, they say that their customer service is useless on these bb's but i have probably completed over 1000 trades and have only ever had to ring them once (an unactivated limit order buy back), and the mater was dealt with to my satisfaction. I have only ever known the web to be unavailable once , for about 15 minutes. But you can not trade a penny a point although the minimum is £1 now i believe. | taximania
19/7/2002 19:03 | taxmania, Which company are you quoting (sic), and what is their service like on volitile days? Thanks | mr garibaldi
19/7/2002 19:01 | 1. Spreads all over the place 2. Quotes taking 5 seconds or more to appear 3. Asking for too many Quotes 4. Trading too frequently in the same direction 5. Mini outage when I had a big (for me) open position All this has happened in 15 minutes of trading. Thanks very much Fins. I applaud your sense of fair play and customer service. | mr garibaldi |
