This is why I found patt's story about being the son of a Holocaust Survivor so fascinating. There are very few people alive today that can bear witness to what happened to the Jewish diaspora during the Holocaust. To have a parent that could give you a first hand account of Kristallnacht and other horrors prior to the exterminations and after is just as fascinating.

The works by Primo Levi are also a good read.

The Jewish genocide was 1941 to 1945. The Jewish Holocaust started 1933.

You don’t need to have been at a death camp to be a holocaust survivor. The child of a Jewess who escaped in 1937 is a holocaust survivor and listed on the official USA holocaust survivors database. If you went into a camp your fate was largely sealed.
