Any Italian Bank refi of the Italia MDC is likely to require evidence of the plant operating at 90%+ serviceability level, generating electricity and biochar as per spec and accounts proving profitability over a most recent minimum 3 month period but possibly much longer eg 1 year.

Can EQT satisfy this requirement? Obviously not so far.

What are the implications if they can't in the future?

The investment funding for the plant can't be returned to stakeholders incl EQT who would have capital tied up in the plant and would have to carry a loss making project.

It is too late to say this needs (has needed) better strategy, execution, operational management and financial discipline. The value has already been destroyed. Over-investing in too many diverse and fanciful large schemes before delivering a plant which works at any scale.

Do you remember the costly decision in early 2022 to extend the option on the land at Billingham? Foolishly still hoping to find a partner within a 12 month deadline having failed to find a partner in the previous two years. Catastrophic. Everyone in that board room needs to empty their desks. Saying they were going to concentrate on smaller near-term deliverable projects instead of chasing pies-in-the-sky, but still flushing cash down the drain. No-one had the guts to admit it was wrong and walk away.

Do you remember at the outset of Italy being told that it was an existing set-up which just needed recomissioning, it would be up and running within 6 months.

Investors and developers all ignored the reality that everyone who has ever tried to do dry / mixed waste gasification as a continuous auto-feedstock process has failed for years and years despite world class industrial engineers getting involved. Even with front end prep to deliver refined homogenous feedstock.

It is probably too late to bring in a different management. Unless it works - what chance of that! In the meantime though we should stop wasting money on people and plant which do not deliver.

All in favour of a post-mortem but let's have some dead bodies first.
