Answered my own question - still high, although predicted to fall next year. Not unexpected. Even if they fall back to $400-500 per ton, Emmerson will still be a money printing machine...IMO

Good point/s Nash. I had completely forgotten about income tax upon exercise and then CGT thereafter.

As you say if HL thinks we are about to hit the significant rerate period then it’s within his interest to exercise now incurring marginal rate of income tax on a modest gain and CGT at only 20% on the hypothetical larger gains.

This subtle point may have been lost on the market and might we indeed see some other option holders follow suit in the coming days.

@Mick. HL has another 10m options and there are a number of others. Full listing including strike price, expiry date are included in the FY21 annual report published on the website.

A couple of reasons. There is every reason to exercise an option ASAP when they have vested as the gain to the point of vesting is taxable as income ( no ability to set off any losses). From the point of exercise you have established a base cost and most importantly you pay capital gains tax not income tax on gains from there.You will always rush to do this if you anticipate a rising share price.On the exercise he washed the option price. So for example if had 6m shares granted at 6p with a strike of 3p instead of 6m X 3p to the Company, he took 3m shares for zero and left the company with 3 m shares less in issue. All the number are illustrated. But you get the point. It means the shares you say were sold were actually not issued.Same net outcome for all.

22m options had previously been granted to HL's consulting company Benson. Benson has now exercised 12m of those and still hold 10m at 8p. Of the 12m exercised 6.9m have been allotted direct to HL so it implies circa 5m have been sold ?

Difficult to know why Benson are exercising these options. Normally it would be to sell them straight away given no point in incurring the holding cost if can avoid; however in this case it appears a cashless exercise.

None of these options were due to expire this year so no obvious rush to exercise. Perhaps a bit of repositioning in advance of funding packages + Benson (HL by default) taking some payment.

As 4 your illustrious leader I've called it how it is....no rose tints 4 me. He's over promised underdelivered (ESIA being a classic) he's rewarded his bad performance on your backs and taken the p155 with dilutions and free shares 🤣

I've bought and sold these a the way from the 3p to 10p and made both ways, banked it and used it to increase positions and profit.

Sure it's 7.1p now but you've lost all the profit in the ups and downs so I'll take your free shares and free money thanks.

The record shows I've called it and shorted from 10p in advance. 3p I'll take that on a sizeable 🩳 thanks......💁;‍♀ʊ39;💁‍♀️Ӿ70;🥂🤣;🤣

You have to hand it to the Smelly one. Not only did it lose life changing sums of money on Sxx, it also picked one of the handful of stocks on AIM to short that has actually appreciated significantly in the last 12-24 months.
