(Alliance News) - Electrocomponents PLC on Monday said Rona Fairhead will succeed Peter Johnson as chair.

The FTSE 250-listed distributor of industrial and electronics products stated Fairhead will join the board on November 1 as a non-executive director and will become chair on February 1, with Johnson stepping down as chair & director on that date.

Electrocomponents asserting dominance, says Liberum


Electronic parts distributor Electrocomponents (ECM) can continue to take share in a large and fragmented market thanks to its strong balance sheet, says Liberum.

Analyst Sanjay Vidyarthi retained his ‘buy’ recommendation and increased his target price on the stock from 750p to 780p. The shares were trading at 694p today.

After benchmarking Electrocomponents’ performance against its global peers ‘as the Covid-19 crisis speeds up the pace of digital transition across the industry’, Vidyarthi said its ‘early-mover advantage, healthy margins, and strong balance sheet position it well to keep taking share in a large, fragmented market where many will not have the firepower to play effectively against its disruptive capabilities’.

‘Peers with large branch bases, low digital penetration, and low margins will struggle to pay to play against ECM and will be unable to address the competitive threat from all angles,’ he said.

Numis: Electrocomponents well positioned


Electrocomponents (ECM) will benefit from long-term structural trends that have accelerated due to Covid-19, says Numis.

Analyst David Brockton retained his ‘add’ recommendation and target price of 630p on the shares, which fell 1% to 676p yesterday.

He said an ‘encouraging’ first quarter showed Electrocomponents’ ‘resilience’. Sales were down 11% in the first three months but improved through the quarter.

‘We cautiously make no change to our full-year forecasts,’ said Brockton. ‘We believe Electrocomponents is extremely well positioned to prove a long-term winner from accelerated structural trends, due to Covid-19, and emerge with a stronger business which can continue to grow faster than the market.’
