Value-added solutions investor day

Electrocomponents plc is hosting a customer site visit today for analysts and investors in Wolverhampton.

The event will include presentations from the EMEA and IESA management team focused on Electrocomponents' growing value-added solutions offer. The day will focus on:

· The journey Electrocomponents is on to move from a product-led distributor to a provider of value- added solutions to address customer challenges in areas such as procurement, inventory management and maintenance.

· How this differentiated offer will drive a strong relationship with customers and continued market share gains.

· A deep dive into IESA, its business model, how it drives value for customers and its longer-term growth potential as part of the Electrocomponents Group.

The presentation will be made available from 10.30am on the investor section of the Electrocomponents website. No material new information will be provided.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Ruth's illness - that's why I sold. In relation to the price, I agree it was a small write down, but why wait until now to announce it ? These two issues have been very badly handled and have contributed to uncertainty and hence the price drop.

Once you get a fall like that, it takes a long time for the price to recover.Even if performance improves, there's a stock overhang from people looking to exit as soon as the price hits their buying price.

Ask yourself am I going to make more money waiting for this to recover, or can I make more elsewhere? I went for the latter and split my sale proceeds by adding to my holdings of LIO and DSCV. So far so good !

Looks like a market over reaction to a fairly small write down on British Steel. Interim dividend to be 5.9p (up 11.3% from 5.3p). Probably silly, but i topped up at this price.

Electrocomponents attractively valued, says Jefferies

Electronic parts distributor Electrocomponents (ECM) is offering an �appealing blend� of surplus capital and good valuation, says Jefferies.

Analyst Kean Marden retained his �buy� recommendation and target price of 730p on the stock after organic revenue growth increased slightly to 5% in the second quarter, ahead of forecasts.

Marden said it was �driven by an impressive resumption of market share gains in the Americas�.

�Although current trading is choppy and 2020 consensus earnings per share estimates are likely to remain unchanged, we believe the shares continue to offer an appealing blend of self-help tailwinds, surplus capital optionality, and attractive valuation,� he said.

FTSE 250 - WINNERS

Electrocomponents, up 3.5%. The electrical parts distributor said it expects to report 5% revenue growth in the six months to the end of September, thanks to a continued "strong" performance in its Industrial division - this interim growth comprises of 4% in the first quarter and 5% in the second quarter.

Geographically, the FTSE 250-listed company reported further growth of 5% and market share gains in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, despite increased macro uncertainty.

Turning to Americas, Electrocomponents said improvements in this region - leading to 3% revenue growth in the first half - were driven primarily by sales force initiatives.

Semiconductor manufacturer Nvidia Corp. topped sales and profit estimates after U.S. markets closed on Thursday, potentially reading across into a good day for the European chips sector. The numbers suggested that the slump in orders chipmakers have seen may be starting to ease, with a revival seen in demand for graphics chips and data center parts.

Possibly taking the sheen off that, however, U.S. chip equipment maker Applied Materials Inc. met analyst estimates but dipped later in the day after it said it was not yet ready to call a bottom in demand for memory chips.
