This is what The Standard said today

Hot weather hit sales at Dunelm in the summer as customers shunned homeware for fun in the sun.
Like-for-like sales fell 5% in the 13 weeks ending September 28 because fewer people visited its 135 stores. The group said sales were particularly down in July.

"The hot weather made it a difficult start to the quarter for Dunelm with trading in the early weeks significantly affected by lower footfall," chief executive Nick Wharton said. "A return to like-for-like growth over the remainder of the quarter underlines our quality and strength and we continue to see good opportunities for growth."

Dunelm said it plans to open another six more stores and boost advertising before Christmas.

Analysts at Peel Hunt downgraded their full-year forecasts, saying: "Dunelm remains one of our top picks in the sector, offering double earnings growth, strong levels of cash generation and operating metrics... however, brand awareness remains relatively poor."

The shares fell by almost 4%.

My view

I however disagree - possibly the summer turnover may be down, but over the year it was up.- Always going to be fluctuations whether it hot, cold, snow, wet.

As regards brand awareness that is going to be addressed soon, with its autumn tv advertising. The stores are in place, merchandise on the shelves, Dunelm are ready to receive it's new customers. Also on-line will improve future sales.

Yup I'm in today on the share price dip been watching for a while looking for a decent entry point - love the fact the owning family have such a large stake here you tend to find much better returns where shareholders and management's objectives are aligned through both having skin in the game rather than the countless companies where management have very little stake in the business and happy just to cream it with an ever increasing salary - I also think the national TV campaign will bring in more punters new and old

Already have a number, but bought a few more shares in Dunelm this morning.
My reasoning, sell a wide choice and variety of homeware products. Curtains particularly good selection: off the shelf, made to measure and material to make curtains etc. yourself.
Recently went into new Lakeside store, slightly away from the main retail outlet, however, I think it will be a success, because the store was bright, clean, well laid out, the staff in the curtain department were particularly friendly and helpful whilst I was browsing.
Christmas products in store near the exit, good strategy.
I haven't seen Dunelm's new tv advertising on the tv, but I have looked at it on their website.

Buy homewares retailer Dunelm

The Sunday Times's Danny Fortson advised
The company has quietly powered its way through the long period of economic gloom and is about to launch its first national TV advertising campaign

Its October 2nd trading update is likely to feature a sales dip caused by unusually hot weather but investors shouldn't be deterred

With opportunities to expand through stores, catalogues and online, Dunelm's winning streak has some way to go, Fortson wrote in the Inside the City column.

Down almost 15% from the high.
Still look too pricey to buy back - still over 20x forward earnings.
Still beating the competition and growing market share every year.
Hit my £10 target 3 years early -
If the start buybacks and faster rollouts together with higher average spend due to housing pick up and accelerated growth online - £20 anyone ?

A UK retailer in the midst of the biggest recession for 100 years up 63% in the last 365 days !
Buffeteer....if you got in at 135p, well done.

The success is v simple -no-one can match their choice.
Choice is the first priority ,then price.
Build big ,out of town stores and rent the mat no more than £10 per foot and you have a competitive advantage -your moat.
2 stores within M25 -an area with ,what, over 15 million of the wealthiest people .Recent comments by CEO to reduce DCF returns on new stores suggests higher cost stores are imminent -M25 .
Just wish family would reduce holding below 55% and commence buybacks to supercharge returns!
a happy holder from 135p not selling until 200 stores .

People want good value for their money, and perhaps are spending it on the things on the home! Ihave recently bought some curtains and took the opportunity do do some research the store was busy, the staff very helpful. They have a cracking cafe in store also. Dunelm is well run and seems to be bucking the general retail downward trend.

Poor results from Homebase, a competitor on some of its range. Dunelm clearly eating all the pies.
Who would have thought that in the midst of the biggest recession for 80 years a home furnishing sretailer would have been one of the best performing shares on the stock market !
I didn't for one.....have joined the party now, plenty of growth to come, Dunelm has barely touched the South of England.

Sorry for levity.
Yes a success story. Just annoyed I dropped a few some time ago for a good profit, intending to buy them back. the price has just got away from me now.
