lab305,

Well unless more hedging has taken place since the last update then we have 25% exposure to spot price in 2022 and so it is material and could make a substantial difference to cash flow, given the growth in production as a result of the acquisitions last year. It should also speed up Oaktree hitting the 10% IRR so that our stake is increased to 60% in each of the joint ventures.

Natural gas in good recovery mode. Let's hope that this year we can get some more profit from it.

asp5 - agreed, esp with great markets for both oil and gas.

trade volume ~5M shares which is above normal - so movement upwards not due to thin trading. Even at £1.50+ broker targets the yield would still be around 8,5% ..... can't believe we will stay at these low levels for much longer

>wonder what is triggering the sharp rise
Most of the broker targets are north of £1.50. The threat of a methane tax has subsided. People are feeling generally positive about the economy because Omicron is looking like something that will assist to bring the pandemic issues to a close.

Hopefully some reality on what a cash cow this company is and how prudently it is run to ensure very substantial dividends and debt repayment. Remember 25% unhedged now and so getting good upside with where the spot price is. That could make some big inroads into the debt pile very quickly, not that debt is at high levels.

Yes. One despairs that all the combined wisdom (?) of the governments of the world has been directed to the challenge of changing from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources without the means of transition being given proper (any?)consideration. Surely they have noticed that there is no switch to flip for an 'at a stroke' change? I guess that having convinced themselves that there is a money tree after al, there must be such a switch out there somewhere too.

The problem for governments is that people need energy to do things. The amount required can be reduced by either efficiency which is hard or doing less things which people won't like. As it stands there is a gap between the expectation of energy and the availability of renewables.

If the price of gas stays at anything like these levels, it is going to be difficult for governments to keep clamping down on gas production. From a purely economic viewpoint, this high price makes the transition to renewables less affordable, and from a political viewpoint it risks damaging public acceptance of carbon reduction policy. Common sense dictates that gas be embraced as a transition fuel, though I am old enough to know that common sense does not necessarily win when 'targets' are at risk of being missed. When did any government ever acknowledge that a target was mistaken, or even an opposition point that out when it is easier simply to berate the government for mining that target than to assert that the target was counterproductive to achievement of the broader objective?

US natural gas up 9.03% today - the largest daily gain since October on chillier forecasts.

I don't have the Appalachian figure but assume it's also up.

Best wishes to all for Chistmas and the New Year. Plenty of excitement here in 2021, but hey, we over 3 figures for Christmas, and the Dec divi has stocked up the drinks cabinet.

Many thanks to all for their thoughts and insights - as usual I learned most from those with which I did not agree - made me think.
