ii started charging stamp duty at the end of May.
They are also slower to credit divis paid in foreign currency so it will be tomorrow at the earliest if lucky. Used to be always on payment date until late last year.

My divi (HL) has just arrived. A very satisfying number.
The question now, do I reinvest it all in DEC, or do I buy another load of coal? The big pile in the garden ensures I shall not be cold this winter, but perhaps I ought to think about the following winter too.

Holts, no they do a free regular monthly trading service. I split a few hundred quid over 3 or 4 shares every month commission free. I still get the trading credit on top of that.

An indication of how serious the situation for gas supply is becoming is provided on page 20 of today’s Telegraph ( hard copy ) , titled “ Britain to turn off gas flowing to Continent in emergency plan “ . Actually , it’s more likely to be we in the UK who will be hit because , lacking our own UK gas storage facilities ( because the Rough storage facility under the North Sea was rejected by the Coalition Government ) , we rely on gas pumped into Europe during summer , which is then sent to us via interconnector pipes during the winter , but maybe the Europeans will refuse to send it to us . Anyway , the UK Government isn’t without a sense of humour , as they’ve created a “ a new winter energy tsar “ - it seems that Westminster is teeming with the little tsars ( a tsar is born ? ) , but maybe the title is a little distasteful , given that which country created this crisis .

3800,I bought DEC about 6 weeks ago with II and paid zero commission.
I have a question too, I've tried to tick the divi reinvesting box but unable to do so, is this because it's a US company?

A nice dip just after the divi lands would be welcome. Happy to reinvest divis here. Compounding is the 8th wonder of the world, so they say.

yesterday was another high volume trading day in DEC shares (~4M) with 2 x 900K shares transactions taking place around midday at ~1.10 - you can see the big dip in the charts.

Cerainly not typical/normal activity ......

Here's another way of looking at futures prices. I've taken June and December contracts for the next 10 years to give an idea of seasonal swings, which seem to have moderated. It's getting so that it does not matter at what maturity you sell because they are all pretty much the same.

There is a large article in the Business section of today's Telegraph , titled " France prepares households for electricity rationing this winter " ( [age 19 ) . The article commences " France's top three energy suppliers have called on households and businesses to prepare to ration electricity and gas as Russia's invasion of Ukraine fuels fears of shortages this winter .... " . Back in 2018 , France produced 71.67 % of its electricity via nuclear plants , the highest percentage in the world and , in spite of Brexit , Britain has often imported French electricity in order to make up for shortages when there is no wind or sun for the turbines and solar panels . Nonetheless , I believe that a number of French nuclear plants are temporarily closed for maintenance . Anyway , if France is to have power rationing , they certainly won't be either willing or able to assist us and there are already articles in the Telegraph which state that Westminster is preparing for power cuts ( presumably on a rolling basis ) to six million homes ( ie about a quarter of the population of the UK ) . This is the end result of the insane policy of net zero , with no contingency plans by Westminster , and which I have been convinced for some time will silently kill large numbers of the most vulnerable through hypothermia , but we as investors cannot change a thing in this mad impasse into which we have been led : all that we can do is to attempt to benefit . Incidentally , readers might be interested that I have just found a website called " Natural Gas World " , which provides information about the entire gas industry . Good luck

hi smidge - generally I would agree that rebalancing is often used as an excuse. The reason I raised this topic in this particular case is because of below recent activity:

8th June: 2M volume - 2 large trades 231k + 483K shares
9th June: 2,8M Volume - 2 large trades 574K + 494K shares

14th June: 2,1M volume - 2 large trades 772K + 341K shares
15th June: 2,1M volume - 1 large trade 543K shares

Elevated trade volumes can be seen on these days - with big ticket trades that I would associate with a large investor or fund. Given the volumes involved this does not appear a mass sell-off more a rejigging / window dressing ahead of H2.

Lets see how things pan out once we are into Q3, but I suspect share price will strengthen from here.

A better explanation may be the sharp sell off in oil and a poor understanding about the limited unhedged exposure in DEC.
