21/1/2006 14:56 | Yep its a safe buy isn't it, I'd certainly swap any M&S into this they are both about 450p; but, everything has a price and the higher the degree of safety the lower the return in dividend and poupward velocity. BTW I have 6500 and am buying more........ | mryesyes
19/1/2006 09:29 | Sorry about the format but anyway: Raising 12-month price target to 510p on reassuring survey Given the share price rise in Dignity, we have re-assessed our recommendation. We are raising our 12-month price target to 510p from 475p, based on 18x 2007E earnings after a £70m cash return. Dignity remains an almost unique stock, with growth and utility characteristics. A recent industry survey suggests Dignity is broadly in line with its competition. Buy. Survey. The life insurance company American Life has updated the Oddfellows survey of UK funeral prices that was last carried out in 2000. The survey estimates the cost of a basic funeral with cremation has risen 61% from £1,215 in 2000 to £1,954 today, which suggests almost 10% annual inflation. This is at odds with our estimate for Dignity's comparable inflation of around 6% and highlights the difficulty of measuring the highlydiverse elements of the entire funeral service. Below, we have tried to roughly reconcile the survey to Dignity's average revenue per funeral. We conclude that Dignity is in the same ballpark as the competition. Implications. The OFT last investigated funeral industry pricing in 2001. It found that competition was effective, though most people did not want to shop around. Therefore, the OFT recommended that all funeral homes prominently displayed their prices and each customer was given a written cost estimate. While this survey suggests inflation above the general service sector, this may well be due to measurement issues. Dignity's pricing policies are visibly around 5-6% and its prices are in the same region as the competition. The industry does not look as though it requires a further OFT investigation. New target price. We believe Dignity's earnings growth prospects of around 15% with no dependence on the economic cycle is increasingly attractive. Growth stocks are achieving higher ratings as the market rises. Our new 12-month price target of 510p is based on 18x our 2007E forecasts (23.4p) assuming a £73m (90p a share) cash return. The shares at our target price would still have an acceptable free cash flow yield of 5.3%, 140bp above the long-term gilt. | india93

07/1/2006 18:13 | >>rafeih and Bingobingy, see thread 219 on this BB: Now Tesco helps at the final checkout Sean Poulter, Consumer Affairs Correspondent, Daily Mail 19 May 2005 SHOPPERS are to be offered money off their funerals in a new Tesco loyalty card scheme. They will be able to use vouchers earned through supermarket purchases to help ease their way into the hereafter. Tesco has signed a partnership with Dignity Funerals, which offers four standard cremation plans ranging from £1,725 to £2,475 depending on the lavishness of the arrangements and the location........ As if Tesco haven't got their fingers into enough of our lives, they want to follow us into the hereafter as well! I know I'm being scurrilous but it would be just the kind of crazy reason that this qualified Dignity for availability from the retail world. Sad isn't it? But that's business, and if it's helped the sp, so be it. DAVPAT | davpat
06/1/2006 17:50 | I have no wish for anyone to die let alone from bird flu.I am a humble investor who happens to have studied the flu virus for many years.Fear not the world is not about to end,yes many shares will crash, but not this one. This virus will come and go just like the others.Every cloud has a silver lining.I suggest you should not invest in Dignity if you are unhappy to profit from death,in case you haven't noticed, that is their business. | neil666
