I've always thought the WPP AGM needed to be well "done and dusted" before the DERR situation is expanded on. My guess is for something to appear by the end of the coming week.....fingers and toes all crossed. f

According to sources at WPP, Sorrell is not bound by a non-compete clause thanks to a highly unusual contract he signed in 2008 that sacrificed that right in return for an arrangement that allowed him to leave - or the company to fire him - "at will". I'm told WPP never considered it likely Sir Martin would set up in competition to a company in which the vast majority of his personal wealth was invested. That thinking has proved faulty as he has already put £40m of his own money into a new shell company with ambitions to build a new empire more suited to the new digital media landscape which critics say his old empire was slow to embrace. WPP is adamant that he may not use any confidential information he gleaned as WPP boss. That could include information on potential takeover targets that WPP looked at acquiring or insights on WPP client's advertising strategies. WPP sources believe these confidentiality agreements operate, in effect, as powerful curbs on his ability to compete directly against his former company. However, Sir Martin Sorrell has a formidable track record for making money, and has already seen a clutch of blue chip investors top up his £40m with another £11m in third party funding for his new venture - S4 - with the promise of over a hundred million more to come. The share structure of his new vehicle will see him wield enormous control over the dealings of the company. Just the way he has always liked it. The sooner we get the show on the road the better. "WPP is adamant that he may not use any confidential information he gleaned as WPP boss. That could include information on potential takeover targets that WPP looked at acquiring or insights on WPP client's advertising strategies."Notoriously difficult to prove if someone is using information obtained in a previous role. I don't think any of this will have any impact on what he does with derriston and i believe once the AGM is out of the way and the dust has settled, this will largely be forgotten about and the news will focus on his new venture.

He's probably being smeared by the current WPP board, as they're going be asked some rather awkward questions tomorrow as to why he was turfed out on the back of a statement made by a disgruntled former employee - if said employee had any evidence it would be public domain by now...

WSJ printed that he paid for a brass with company money. Sorrell would never be so careless so any accusations like that are easily deniable and he will defend his name with lawyers. Nothing removes the fact he's still the most respected man in advertising or that he's got the capacity to build a great company from scratch.

Famously WPP was a company best known for making wire and plastic products [WPP] before he took it over. Sir Martin, 73, will be chairman of the listed firm Derriston Capital, as part of a plan under which Derriston will buy S4 Capital and turn it into an international media business – in the quickest return to the London Stock Exchange in history. Sir Martin's return has caused waves in the city. Advertising expert Marc Mendoza, founder of 360 degree media said: 'WPP should be checking their client contracts and they should be all over their top 5 clients because although he hasn't get anything to technically offer them yet his contacts book is unrivalled. 'He will have the direct lines and emails of all of every one of the top spending advertisers in the UK and abroad and no doubt would have told them about his new plans over the last 24 hours because he would have been up all night doing it'. When asked how unusual the millionaire's return to work was he said: 'Unusual is not the right word, it's unprecedented. 'Most people who left the business after 30-plus years in the business in a high pressure position would look at the summer ahead and think "I'll have a bit of that" and take six months off'. He added: 'I don't think that Sir Martin has had six weeks off and he has probably spent five weeks of that plotting this comeback so really he hasn't had six days off'.
