Sad about the jobs loss at Toys-for-us
I hope they all find jobs.

Really? You talk down constantly almost obsessively Debenhams in the hope that it goes bust and you move on to your next shorting victim.
You are a boil on the body of capitalism waiting to erupt at any time with all the puss that comes out of your mouth. You are one sad person.

Debenhams will triumph either alone or being taken over but it will not go your way. That you can be sure off.

A bid has to be at the highest price MA purchased any shares in last 12 months...

So what is the highest price?

Then look at the remaining 70% of shares at that price!

Even a wild guess would equate to double the market cap say less 30%.

Say £350 million!

Would anyone pay £350 million for a company which is forecast to make £50 million with no asset value taking account leases.

debsdowner

But he still has to bid a minimum price and that price cannot be lower than the lowest/highest (not sure) price he paid in last 6-12 months.

He would still have to come up with at least £150 million and take on billions of leases!

Nah if he was going to bid he would wait for results first then make his mind up.

Yes by buying 0.3% Mike Ashley would have to bid for the remainder, however he could still go over this figure and make a bid that only some shareholders would accept.

I was just wondering why SPD doesn't sort of defend their recent buy. As I recall they bought some 6% at around 29p just a few weeks back. But I now understand that they probably can't buy more, and hence the price just dives. I would think it is a good entry level here some 25-30% below SPD's recent buy. I have been rather successfull in mimicking some of their positions, recently FINL in the US was a very good trade.I believe DEB will be an easy 25% this year, especially if indeed they keep the dividend.

"If he take on 30% he must then make a bid"

And that would be the reason he hasn't taken 30% he knows the rules as well as anyone else.

Who knows he might choose to make a bid in the future, unlikely though I think, but he is certainly not going to accidentally buy the extra 0.3% and become liable to bid.

Niggle I disagree.

You only need to look at other retailers valuations. Some retailers almost worthless. Nothing out there than I can see that shows Debs improved.

MULTI,

There are indeed bid rules. The bidder cannot make an offer lower/higher (not sure) than the price for stock they have purchased during a given period. Not certain whether its 6 months or 12 months.

I cannot see MA bidding myself he would take on too much risk.

If he take on 30% he must then make a bid, However the board may reject it?

Please do your own research.

How is the rules if SPD passes 30% ownership? Do they still have to make a bid for the whole company if they pass that limit? And are the rules still that they have to pay at minimum the highest price they bought shares at within the last 12 months?
