I missed shorting dcg last year after advice that the business was struggling before the results came out (I really should trust the typing pool more)

strong steady rise from floor price of 315p, market beginning to appreciate - again - the quality of this company. second half should contain some benefits from St Ivel acquisition. brokers expecting EPS of 46 for a single figure Pe and good yield. nice to see it over 4 pound again when results are out next month.

Solid recovery today after recent fall. concerns about the Safeway situation are over done IMHO, it still has excellent longterm value with its super dairy, its high margin commodities, and its takeover of St Ivel products. Brokers are looking for eps 46p, and pe 7 - far too cheap, I have held from 180p, sold half at 480p and happy to run the rest for long term.

jackspratt- I cannot either seeing as they are suppliers to M&S and Waitrose- I know because we supply them- Safeway do not feature. We are under tremendous pressure- milk off the farm today is 20p per litre- whats yours when you go the supermarket?

Dairy Crest - falls on concerns about pressure on Dairy forms - Because of Morrison merger with Safeway.

Thanks nirvs, I take your point and have set a stiff stop loss.

So, apart from general market sentiment, what is continually driving this stock down? To my mind it seems like quite a safe defensive stock, but relative liquidity apart, it is certainly not behaving defensively at a time when stocks like this should be a safe haven?

My gut is telling me that a major shareholder is offloading as each day we are seeing multiples K sells offsetting buys, but why sell?

Gonzales: If it breaks 390p support, there is going to be a big drop. Be careful

Hello..Is there anyone out there?

I've been doing some basic research on Dairy Crest, but am finding it hard to dig any deeper than the basic financials. It looks to be the sort of company you might want to be in for the duration of current market sentiment. (Solid and reliable). Strong figures, good turnover, profit making, sensible PE, good dividend, etc.

I've been watching the share price steadily come down recently and have finally taken the plunge today as it appears to maybe have bounced off a support level. I would however be intriged to hear comments from other investors out there. For instance, does anyone have any ideas about the large volumes going through lately? Is something happening that I should be aware of?

Thru' 400p and the 21 day sma about to cross thru' the 50 day sma. Volume picking up in the last three days though the momentum in decline seems to be slowing, perhaps trying to round out?

Looks to me that a steep drop is on the cards as I read the volume as mainly sells being at or below the mid price.

Byrdsong - you out there? Was looking at a longer term chart and see the 50% retracement of the main upleg this year at around 327p where there is good support - could be the actual target if there is a large number of shorts building as I suspect.

Time will tell.
