17/4/2013 22:49 | 'Dairy Crest formula milk price change' 17 April 2013 Dairy Crest has crunched the numbers in its formula pricing contract and producers who elected for the new pricing system will see their May price fall back by 0.033ppl from April's 29.95ppl. The formula tracks on a monthly basis, movements in the cost of 18 per cent dairy cake, fertiliser and red diesel as well as the market values of bulk cream and four-pint retail liquid milk. But the most influential of the five figures are concentrates and bulk cream. Changes in formula price movement are applied to the base element of the producer price. | philanderer

10/4/2013 16:46 | 'Dairy Crest plan to invest in London plant' Published 10 April 13 Dairy Crest has announced plans to invest £5m into its dairy in Chadwell Heath, East London. The investment, which is part of its £75m three year investment programme, is aimed at upgrading and improving the efficiency of the plant. Chadwell Heath is one of the three remaining key dairies Dairy Crest own following the closure of plants in Liverpool and Cambridge last year. Currently the processing plant produces 400m litres of milk a year and employs 384 workers. Dairy Crest faces intense competition in the liquid milk market, which accounts for 77% of the milk processed through its plants. Rival companies Arla and Müller Wiseman Dairies have both invested substantial amounts in new liquid processing and distribution facilities in recent years in order to drive down operating costs. | philanderer

05/4/2013 14:38 | 'Milk giants inject £5million into Chadwell Heath dairy' Dairy Crest will inject the capital into its Dagenham dairy in Chadwell Heath to fund a number of improvement projects. The site is one of the firm's "three key dairies" following the closure of two others in Liverpool and Cambridge last year. "The site is going from strength to strength," said a Dairy Crest spokesman. "The expenditure will update and improve facilities on the site and generally make us more efficient. It demonstrates our commitment to our Chadwell Heath dairy." The company recently retained a major contract to supply milk to Sainsbury's supermarkets through to 2017. A restructuring of the organisation from April 1 this year has led to anticipated savings of around £5million annually. The Selinas Lane processing plant produces 400million litres of milk a year and employees 384 workers. | philanderer

20/2/2013 13:07 | Gaining in the last couple of days due to Sainsbury's announcement and also Danone's trading update which showed profits stagnant (but beat expectations), and a willingness to consolidate and improve margin. There is deep value in the dairies business here which I'm confident will bear fruit and drive EPS over the next 2-3 years. | little beaker |
