VIX at 21+ is highest for 7 months.

Goodness. Do my eyes deceive me? Everything else is falling and CMCX is up. UK 2-year Gilt yield is currently up 0.33%. Now that is volatile. When I started investing, it rarely moved more than 0.01 or 0.02% per day.

Is CMCX finally waking up to what is going on? Shares down. VIX up. Gold up again. Commodities all over the place (but I suppose that's not so unusual for them).

If it is, the equity market will find out last as it always does.

Credit default swaps and junk bond yields seem to be on the rise in recent weeks. Trouble brewing?

Volatility continues. CPI undershooting in Denmark, Greece and Netherlands. HHHhhhmmm....... rate policy now looks to tight, so could bring even more instability?

The price here gets crazier. VIX has been elevated for 3 weeks in what is usually the busiest time of year yet the shares hit new lows. Hopefully, the update in 5 weeks or so will take care of it.

Edit - PLUS should update for Q3 very soon. That might help turn things.

IGG and PLUS both rose today.

Some modest expansion news:

Someone on other boards says update tomorrow. But I think it's November?

20.4 before the US close actually IS a 6 month plus high.

At 20.01 a few minutes ago, VIX has just basically equalled it's 6-month highs.

4-month high achieved. Where will it stop.

VIX trying again for a 4-month high. Again these going the wrong way.

Edit - oh, maybe not.

What? So all those with registered accounts and cash deposited do nothing when the markets throw a wobbly? LOL.

I don't think a little bit of vol means people flock to outfits like CMC. Many are happy to take 5% minus the stress.

NOW, we have some proper volatility - shares, bonds, forex, commodities.

And CMCX goes the wrong way. Typical. It will likely recover into the next update, though.

VIX looking perky again. This is the busy time of year as weather turns so it should be good for business.

VIX has been rising this week as a potential US government shutdown rears its head again.

Yes indeed, Aleman. Though Ben Graham along with everyone else worth mentioning gets a screen on Stocko, which makes fascinating reading. It's like reading about radically contrasting diets - part of you thinks - they can't all be right, even if they have the research to prove it!

To which my answer would be, it depends on the market environment. I think it's difficult to contest the view that the LSE is in heavily oversold territory, so there is likely to be extreme value.
When/as/if markets regain their zest for life, it may be time to shift to more momentum based/growth situations.

Discuss.
;)

PS. Long TCAP.

Who was Buffett influenced by who hunted shares trading below book value so the downside was protected? Was that Charlie Munger or Benjamin Graham? I think it was the latter. He's covered in investment books and is worth reading about. These days, it's all instant and online and many of the old strategies are forgotten about.

CMCX the much better bet - asset backed and downside far more protected than the others.
