You don't have to list in the U.K. - can be based here and list in US Main reason why they sell out is a culture poverty of ambition relative to California - eg founders get excited about buying a bit of property and living well in england Plus there's a huge lack of post Series A funding - but that's nothing to do with shorts Unfortunately the back of England ignored Bill Ackerman and others who were shoring financial institutions in 2006 and published their research

Does nkla have any debt?

Is it being shorted by NY?

No the reason why they sell out as gvc will do is because
of the fact that if you list in the UK, the US / UK shorting
crowd will destroy you because the US want you, it is bad
enough the US short the UK but when the UK short the UK
is so wrong, like a UK citizen selling secrets to the Germans
in ww2. As you say the ftse is left with the old companies
the US do not want or need.

That's a separate issue - we are excellent at innovating and woeful at commercialing and management teams/founders sell out far too early Deep Mind was bought by google for £400m - it's now the core of their AI business and is worth many tens of billions (and there's countless other examples) Shorting can distort markets, but so can Robin Hood/rampant longs NKLA, for instance, still has a $15bn market cap despite having zero technology

There's not the liquidity to do large basis trades on CINE - assuming that there is an arb between cash and derivatives

Nope. Hedge funds both buying and shorting at the same time. Goes down or up they make money on the difference.

Shorts closed further yesterday, interesting day we had shorts
hopefully closing further whilst Morgan Stanley increasing
their holding, more of the same tomorrow and a close
over 63p.
I feel we will see an orderly closing and a steady rise a lot
higher in time.

I'm waiting till it hits my buy order at 7p..far too much debt then they can handle.
The 7p entry target is purely for the bankruptcy rally to 24p
