What you need is for those meddling kids (government ) to pick on another industry and thus take the spotlight away from the energy suppliers. MP's ....... champions for the people.......don't make me laugh.Naughty boys, the lot of them .

Yep getting into the low 170s is the first step. This then leaves 170 as a good resistance level to bounce back off after any retracement.

They've got to break through 170 by a good distance (2-3p) and the we might start to see a bit of stability.

Can anyone else sense a subtle change in sentiment for Centrica? Just that slightest essence on the breeze :)

Morning Nortic. I think it's just a shot across the governmemt bows. The retail business may be high turnover but the profit is in relation quite small and there is a huge amount of time and money required to maintain 8 million customer accounts. Whereas the upstream provision is more profitable and you only need to maintain a couple of hundred customer accounts. Any consumer facing business needs more strings to bow to warrant all the grief. Centrica may not be quite so binary in their business model as SSE but am happy with Centrica's ever increasing diversity. I like tech diversity over just more raw power.

Morning HHHThis all sounds rather interesting. It's very reminiscent of when the big banks i.e HSBC threatened to leave the UK about a year or so ago. Is this an idle threat from SSE and what are the implications for CNALess competition?More accounts? The Government meets them ( energy suppliers half way) ?Like to hear your thoughts Gentlemen.P.s It does seems a lot colder out there but that's me just clutching at straws :)

Skinny if you look at the end of any days trading high and lows you will note that a share could hit a high or low yet you never see that unless you bought ,Just look at any share on Monday close Get a life .My holdings started with a buy this time of 182.8Last time I started at 192p and sold at 242p

Ah yes Greg. I see the article. They say they may sell the consumer business or float it separately. Not sure either of these options would find buyers? If everyone dumped the customer side then the price would go through the roof as this standalone type of business would be at the mercy of upstream pricing. The investment risk would demand a high reward.

Skinny, does it matter? People on these boards will tell you anything whether it's the truth or not. It's nice to see someone put out a positive article even if it is 'the fool', obviously he bought in last week. Could be the trigger for a reversal.

SSE saying they may ditch consumer electricity and gas supply in the UK "more trouble than its worth"

Govt needs to be careful.

Tanker - you repeatedly post "facts" - In post 4937 you say you "just bought 8447", but you also say in post 5809, that you started buying again @182p

On the 4th October, the share price @9:52 hadn't been below 186 and the first time it hit 182p was @10:53? Am I misinterpreting your post??

now back to CNA I HAVE OVER 20 YEAR BOUGHT AND SOLD MANY TIMES MADE THOUSANDS
NOW I AM BACK IN STARTED TO BUY AGAIN AT 182P STILL BUYING AND AVGE NOW 172P
WILL KEEP BUYING AND VERY HAPPY WITH MY HOLDINGS AFTER ALLL IT WILL ONLY GO TO THE TWO DAUGHTERS ,

Crikey. Even that spanner website 'fool' has put up an article recommending to buy centrica, . It makes a change from their thousands of 'biggly fake news' articles telling everyone to dump centrica.
