I am surprised that no-one has commented on the coincidence of the option-tax sales by chairman etc disclosed this morning. Without the buy-back in place this could have been a depressive influence.

Some large sellers are being removed from the equation prior to the year end trading update on 30th January:

"Following on from the recent Q3 trading update on 22 November 2022, we are delighted to confirm that trading has remained robust since then and would now expect a full year outcome at least in line with the upper end of market expectations 1 . We will announce our Q4 trading update on 30th January 2023."

i.i.i have set up a momentum screen for small cap shares where:

The 50-day moving average price has risen above the 200-day moving average price
Price strength has been positive against the market over one year, three months and one month
Positive forecast earnings-per-share growth in the year ahead

CNIC are one of the top 10 shares highlighted in yesterday's article, with a P/E of 9.8:

I note that there has been no mention of cancellation of the repurchased shares which therefore are assumed to be held in treasury and potentially available for use towards settlement of any future acquisitions.

They obviously feel these are bargain prices, at this rate the buybacks will only take a couple of weeks

I must say this buyback program didn’t seem to be the most obvious plan for a company at this stage although there have been a number of similar moves by small caps with surplus cash recently. Wonder if it is more of a defensive move. I did ask Ben a while back how and if he could defend an unwanted bid for the company. Sounds like continuing strong performance will be in q4 update which might have attracted chancers. Whatever the challenges this year, longer term cnic are very much at the beginning of their journey, so we don’t want to loose it on the cheap. Well done Ben and many thanks for what he achieved thus far with his very able team.

We flew to Mumbai to stay with partners sons girlfriends family. They had a steel business in downtown Mumbai. Real rag to riches story. Then up to Thar desert drove east to Delhi via various towns Jalsaimer, Jodhpur, Agra . Flew down to a couple of resorts in Karela and then another week relaxing in Mumbai. Not sure relaxing is quite the right word for Mumbai. If you go to Delhi make sure to visit the Piano Man jazz club. One of the best meals I’ve had anywhere. The resorts in Karela were magical. We watched the World Cup final on a houseboat there. Perfection. We wanted to do a train ride to Goa but ran out of time. Been a long time trying to visit India. Worth the wait. Will be back for one of those massive weddings before long I guess!

Where in India? My wife and I were exploring China and made five trips in two years and then covid hit. Ironically, my last flight was from Wuhan, late 2019, though we were only there for a connecting flight to Heathrow. We had a couple of more trips planned to China before moving on to exploring India but the pandemic and now ill-health has put an end to my travelling. Was hoping to travel around by train.
