25/2/2002 10:47 | Hilary, Many thanks for the information. But I was beginning to wonder whether you were the Mrs Gish or Mrs Gist!! I will say one thing about you. You are definitely keen on footballing matters, as I have seen you calling card on other football threads. | marquis
25/2/2002 10:29 | Hi Marquis, Mrs Gish is the ex-wife of Harding who has since remarried. Her interest in the company is held through the Harding estate in the name of NY Nominees. For a few years she has made no secret of wishing to dispose of the stake and on a number of occassions I gather Bates has kindly offered to take it off her hands at much higher prices than todays. Each time that Bates has made an offer (from memory the offers started at £1.50), Gish has let pride stand in her way and dragged her heels and the price has eased. In turn Bates has made a series of ever-reducing offers and here we are now. The price is on the floor and I believe she still wants out (even more so as her new husband is connected with a different football club). I suspect that Bates will simply bide his time before picking her stock up for peanuts. That's about as much as I know. As for the company they've got: A 42,500 seater stadium, 2 hotels, 8 restaurants, a sports bar, piano bar, a pub/club, a night club, a health club, fourteen function rooms, 20,000 sqft of retail, 24,000 sqft of offices, a travel agency, a radio station, a television channel, a business centre and an underground car park. There's also the small matter of the recently acquired 9-hole golf course which is intended to be turned into a new training ground. Then there's the £24 million Emirates sponsorship deal. But like monaco suggests ......... "they're totally reliant upon Sky and winning the Champions League to make a profit". Not! Hil. | hilary
25/2/2002 09:52 | Hilary, I have been reading your interesting and light hearted debate with monaco man! You have tantalised us all with the question; "Do you know who Mrs Gist is?" I also haven't researched the stock, as you chide the man from Monaco. So Hilary, with all due respect, could you in any way be connected to the late Matthew Harding? Perhaps Mrs Harding? Or possibly one of Mr Hardings' Mistresses? If not Hilary, then perhaps you will take the questioning in the light hearted way it was intended. | marquis
25/2/2002 08:18 | Oooops. Sorry monaco, I was mistaken. I was under the impression that you'd researched the stock. | hilary
25/2/2002 08:12 | No idea, is she Chelsea's lastest signing? but seriously, somebody who has seen the light, the shares are held by so few main shareholders that she maybe linked to one of these. It has been good talking to you, but this is a sinking ship AVOID | monacoman
24/2/2002 18:12 | monaco, I'll return to this thread because I enjoy a bit of fun. You've discounted my suggestion of a background seller depressing the price. Here's a clue. Do you know who Mrs Gist is? :-) | hilary
24/2/2002 09:27 | For what? Christmas?? Read my posts. I've already said I don't have a position and they're not a buy at the moment. | hilary
24/2/2002 09:09 | Hilary, I am still waiting????????????? | monacoman
20/2/2002 09:11 | According to ADVFN price to book 0.36% price to intangibles 1.07%, and who the hell is gonig to purchase a football stadium, if they could build a few residentials (theres is probably enough hotels) maybe they could reduce losses. Once again I am still waiting for ONE good reason to buy this stock, rather than the usual jargon "oh theres sellers" I'll be buying soon,if you have made profit on this stock in the past(you would have to have been very lucky) forget it its going nowhere. Once again 9.09 not one share traded Give football a wide berth | monacoman
20/2/2002 08:26 | We'll have to agree to disagree then, but with market cap running at some 20% of assets even after the intangibles have been stripped from the balance sheet, your fundamentals argument could get quickly thrown from the top of Canary Wharf if they do, by a strange quirk of fate, actually make a profit. | hilary
20/2/2002 08:02 | The business model, due you mean the half empty hotel or the close down restuarants, no ones interested in dining at Chelsea football club when the Kings road is round the corner turnover down losses up. It is a great idea but so waswas the internet< I have looked at the busines model but unfortunately with guys like Bates in control i would rather look at companies with sounder fundamentals.br> I do not believe the Chelsea business model without profits from football can not work. But if you think it does rather than taking of my glasses tell me why you think there business model works. Regarding Sellers as you put it its not as if the volume on this stock is not huge. The seller can only be Swan management 26% BSKYB 10% Bates 18% NY Nominess 21% only real institution is HSBC3%, if they dumping stock they would have to annonuce this via LSE. I am sorry I do not agree with you, unless you can prove different. Regards | monacoman
19/2/2002 09:22 | monaco, Wrong! Did hold once for a little while and took profits on the Sky deal. Haven't held since and don't intend to at the moment as there's, imo, a big background seller, so you won't get any sound buying reasons from me. Once the seller's clear, I'll be looking to pick these up on the cheap though. I'd suggest you clean your glasses and look at the business model a bit closer than just staring at the football pitch. | hilary
18/2/2002 14:14 | Excellent research monacoman. Do you originate from Preston? :-) | hilary
18/2/2002 14:04 | If every company in the Uk was ran as poorly as Chelsea there would not be a Stock Market. How long can they and many other Football Clubs carry on in this cavalier fashion. Football is TOTALLy reliant on Sky, the Glory days of huge fees for the Premiership are gone, heaven help the likes of Chelsea. Still they have a couple of Restuarants that nobody eats in maybe they hire these to the DSS thats where most if teir employees we be in the future unles they can rid of their debt. Most of the shareholders are the Mugs that pay £60 a ticket anyway | monacoman
13/2/2002 00:06 | It may be possible that like many organisations, ADVFN were tryig to 'test the water' and see if they could possibly get away with it. CONSTANT VIGILANCE IS IMPORTANT. | marquis
08/2/2002 11:58 | Marquis I've noticed this. I once accused ADVFN of pulling a thread that had some very dodgy timing re a company announcement and they denied all knowledge. It reappeared later. Since then, I have noticed on 2 or 3 occasions that a thread I know is there is not visible for a period, despite several refreshes, and then suddenly reappears. Doesn't happen often but definately weird. ccnp | ccnp
