Shares Magazine - 04/10/07

"Carter Struggles On"
"Shares in training company Carter and Carter (CART) have been suspended after yet another profit warning. Having already told the market in June and July of the underperformance, a review has concluded full-year results will be even lower than expected. Share trading has been halted while the firm pulls together an accurate picture of its finances.
The company has struggled since the death of Chief Executive Phillip Carter in May. A new appointment has yet to be made, while progress with the Learning and Skills Councils new 'Train to Gain' scheme has proved slower than hoped.
Shares says: Although this is further bad news, wait for the financing review outcome.DC
HOLD"

And thats it.

I hear they are looking to replace the FD with Dale Winton and his Wheel of Fortune.

Win some, you lose some I guess.

I have already written off the £3917.00 I invested in CART. Rather spookily, the last share that went pop was Monticello when I lost £3917. Never again will I invest £3917 in a company!!

For what it's worth, I don't think CART is finished. The FD had to go, for whatever reason it appears he didn't do a very good job. The company could simply not allow him to carry on.

No-one can say for sure if they will come back. It all depends on the extent of the anamolies I suppose.

Anyway, it's money I've already written off so if they do come back, even at a far lower price, I'll be chuffed.

Never liked safe havens, I like plenty of risk. So much so that I have £32,000 tied up in Maghreb Minerals!! (MMS)

.....webgremlin - spot on. Banks are not going to pull the plug on a company they supported with an almost £1m acquisition a while back.

All is not and I remain bullish although expect the shares to halve on re-listing.

£1m is nothing in thegrand scheme of things.......

£ 8.5 mill"profit" with a muppet bean counter saying so ?

THIS IS DOOMED.

The FD was obviously a muppet, so great news that he's gone.

If a company is making £8.5m a year after tax and interest payments and I was a creditor, I'd make damn sure they keep trading!

You appear to have got this one very wrong; bearish when it surged from 60p to 130p and bullish when you went long at 100p.

Accept the facts here. The fd has gone, and the banks only okayed the acquisition as they were misinformed as to Carters true financial position.

The longer this goes on, the murkier it looks, and the circumstances around Philip Carter's death may not be as clear as initial findings suggested.

This company is finished, at least as shareholders are concerned, unpalatable as that may sound.

Have they applied to The B of E for emergency funding from the TAXPAYER ?

Seems to be the flavour of the month in THE CITY with Gordon dishing out the DOSH.

I suppose the longer the suspension goes on the more chance of relisting.
I would have thought if the situation was beyond salvage that the receivers would have been in by now ??

The banks supported CART only a few weeks ago with a £960k acquisition and the net profit is still expected to be £8.5m. I wouldn't say it's over just yet.
