well from the reaction so far, it does not appear to be a bad enough news to cause a 40% drop. I am quite happy to subscribe to a right issue.

v011etc - How much do they need to raise with an equity issue? Their debts are around £90 million I believe and market capitalisation currently £34 million. So even a 1 for 1 rights issue does not go far, and that would have to be heavily discounted. Doesn't look too good to me, I have been thinking of buying but won't touch it now until we know the equity issue deal.

The Board of Carter & Carter Group plc note the sharp fall in the Company's
share price this afternoon. Following the trading update on 13 July 2007, the
Board has been in discussions with its advisers and its banks about the
renegotiation of its banking facilities in conjunction with an equity issue.
These discussions are continuing in a positive and constructive manner. A
further announcement will be made with the Company's results in mid October. The
Board and its advisers know of no reason for the sharp fall in the Company's
share price this afternoon.

quite clear it was a tree shake .. consider if you are one of the poor guy with huge short position and there is no volume in the market, what could you do to bring the sellers in. Find an opportunate moment, take all all the bids on the market in one large sell and start putting your bids 10/15 % below and start buying like mad after that. You will sell x and buy 3 - 4 x and thereby end up reducing your short position for a good profit. Well the analysis of the volumes and trades seems to suggest exactly that happened today. In last 30minutes we traded nearly 1 MM shares which we did not in the whole morning.

If professionals have these short positions, expect few more of such deadly shakes as they have the might to move and shake the markets.

Managed a small buy at 74p, looking promising now, L2 buy volume coming back up.

In auction again now at 84.25p this time...

now in auction on the way up. I think this is third or forth auction already.

The bid volume was quite low on L2 and I think someone took an advantage of that. Possibly to cover a short position. Sell 50K in one go. Bring in a dip and then buy 150 K on the way up and seller pile in.

v01101999, potential for takeover soon? what's your view?

-> I have this view for a long time backed by a massive position (which kind of gave me a heat attack on the dip today !)

The negative news expected from the company can be

a) no win the remaining 4 districts for pathway to work. Would be a blow but not as much as suggested by the dip today.

b) equity placement/right issue. I would think the company is resisting it and would continue to do so.

Since my first buy at 52 (using the profits I made on the short at 265), I have been of the view that the shares are too cheap, the bad news is priced in and once the waters are calmed (possibly after the result announcement), this would either be acquired OR would shoot up.

It is an open knowledge that buyers are sniffing around this company.

- yes I did. Would get a call back shortly as Mr. Westhead seems to be in a meeting. Fingers crossed not a meeting resulting into a bad annoucement! I have added more on the dip ;-)
