24/9/2024 09:03 | re: card prices - How much profit do you think they make on 15p cards? Do pensioners care if the card costs 15p or 20p when 2nd class postage is 85p? Gifts and Occasions is where the margins are, this is the strategy they are (were - at least) delivering. However, I'm not particularly impressed with the results (esp. cash flow), or the rather generic "our robust actions to mitigate inflationary pressures". But relative to peers still massively undervalued, should be over £2. | taylor20
24/9/2024 09:00 | Well that size drop came out of the blue, christmas is their best period and that's just aroung the corner, and when money is tight that's when Card File benefit, afterall its a budget retailer, and so things are only going to get better. Well oversold here...filling my boots. | caveater
24/9/2024 08:53 | I am disgusted by the outcome of these results. The management have tried to pull the wool over our eyes with their updates. They must be aware that profitability is the measure of a company's success. I have lost confidence in them and so has the market. I can no longer believe anything they tell us. After those results they should apologise for misleading the investors. I will be selling on any recovery in the sp | prokartace
24/9/2024 08:52 | Kaos...Good question. In my view we just need to evidence the share price reaction to judge management. It's massively volatile. They should have guided higher expenses earlier and managed the expectations. | muffster
24/9/2024 08:51 | I think the lack of a TS to provide guidance will be a question posed at the CC later today. As mentioned above, there was also other information that it would have been nice to have seen before, though not strictly RNS material. They are a public traded company and timely dissemination of information is a must. This kind of Mgmt behaviour doesn't do anything to provide future confidence. Perhaps the best thing would be for a takeover bid. It is a shame as I think there is a good story here, but mgmt / IR have dropped the ball. And, btw, a number of companies over the years have issued an RNS saying they know of no reason for the increase in share price. I don't believe that being in a closed period would affect that. A closed period is aimed at preventing directors etc gaining from inside knowledge during that period. | fft

24/9/2024 08:46 | Trading into Xmas has an interesting two way pull. On the one hand Labour are settling like crazy with the unions, but on the other hand, the biggest buyers of cards etc are pensioners, and they are going to be focused on heating their homes | eigthwonder
24/9/2024 08:46 | Blundy is probably filling his boots today | tomg23
24/9/2024 08:45 | amt , sorry | hardupfedup
24/9/2024 08:44 | Revenue +5.9% Cards too cheap. It's clear that they need to increase prices so that this feeds through to the bottom line, they are way cheaper that the competition in any case so I don't think customers would be deterred by even a 10% increase in prices which would make a huge difference to the business. Maybe that's what will happen anyway. | bountyhunter
24/9/2024 08:42 | Shanklin has it. I was warned off CARD as the management were poor and adverse to prudent guidance. Learnt my lesson.Avoid poor management | muffster
24/9/2024 08:41 | It always amazes me when results come out. If the negative figures in our results were reversed to show positive, would our shares have jumped 15% this morning, I don't think so? | 1224saj
24/9/2024 08:40 | card mirrors society and culture,,, in a very efficient way.... there is only so much they can do imho | kaos3
24/9/2024 08:38 | CARD could certainly have issued a post-H1 TS stating they expected to meet FY expectations with a greater H2 weighting than the market might have anticipated. They also seem to have had a lot of positive, market sensitive, news that probably could have been RNS'd earlier... ...in said H1 TS. | shanklin
24/9/2024 08:33 | The results aren't disastrous but the move from c110 to 140 was like that of a beat and raise candidate rather than "as you are" share with its most important trading period ahead. And if the company is in line it can't issue a statement in a closed period along the lines of "you've got ahead of yourselves". In fact it wouldn't issue such a statement at any time (unless the shares went to a truly silly level). Welcome to the world of share trading. | eigthwonder
24/9/2024 08:27 | Hardup you lost credibility through your bad spelling | amt
24/9/2024 08:27 | Warning in advance H1 would be what it is would have constituted a profit warning. Holders would have got stuffed anyway. At least this way, they are able to wrap it up in the H1 results and sound confident that FY is on course. So, whilst I am not happy with H1, I think this was the right choice in informing the market.Meeting FY expectations is another matter though. Time will tell... | iandippie
24/9/2024 08:25 | I prefer their designs anyway, nice simple - last one for my daughter... 13 - OMG! You're A Teenager | yf23_1
24/9/2024 08:23 | They do make a mess of their numbers. Very childish management.Hopefully new buyer will shake them up as you can't keep this up | muffster
24/9/2024 08:22 | I would certainly expect anyone wanting to take a good size position to be eyeing this volume and price. | clem h fandango
24/9/2024 08:21 | Good company -- slow to increase there prices to accommodate anticipated overhead cost imo -- selling cards for 15p etc its gonna catch up with you - then you've got a big increase - turnover for vanity -- profits for sanity. Not knocking it it'll catch up next time -- in the mean time some CREDABILITY lost. I am a long holder, Regards | hardupfedup |
