It was overbought yesterday, as was the gold price, according to the 14 day RSI so today's fall in the gold price and hence the CMCL share price is not a surprise.

It's the growth prospects from new properties, gold income from the Blanket mine, dividend and good management that make this stock appealing.

Maybe, Fred, it's several things coming together: rising gold price, bank issues, results any day, perhaps Bilboes turning out to be good...

Not arguing with any of that Mikky, but we spend years with all that ignored and being divorced from the gold price until today.....

They have been profitable for many years. No debt. Quarterly dividend for many years. Get on with the authorities. Have just completed a major new shaft without debt or dilution and increased production. Just acquired a large high-grade gold property at modest price and have just started producing gold there. We wait to hear how much.

Any idea what's happening here - 2 price monitoring extensions? Banks are going bust so a gold miner in Zimbabwe is deemed a safe haven???

Last year, results were announced on 17th March. So I expect that now we will hear results next week. Included in the results last year were paragraphs on post year-end events and outlook. This would be a place to update us on progress at Bilboes and to speak broadly about production at Blanket. It would be good also to hear about any safety improvements at Blanket Mine.

With gold now over $1900/oz you'd have thought the share price of CMCL might have gone up...

The fall is due to an article in the STimes describing the situation in Zimbabwe in less than glowing terms. How much a shareholder can be said to support the regime I do not know, but clearly quite a few others do.

Why the sudden fall; gold price still above $1900/oz?

In the video posted above Learmonth says that Blanket delivers about $50m opeerating cashflow (although at current gold price it'll be higher than that) and Bilboe will deliver $7-8m in 2023. So more than $58m. CMCL EV is about $246m so < 4.2 x operating cashflow (although at current gold price, certainly weell under 4) with all the real upside from Bilboe still to come.

I entirely agree, SteMiS. Mark Learmonth said this in an interview on 2nd November:

"We look forward to developing an exploration program for Motapa as we target a large scale gold belt surrounding the Bilboes project."

Note the use of the word "surrounding". Motapa lies to the south of Bilboes. What about the land north, west and east of Bilboes? "A large scale gold belt". I think it might make the market a little nervous if Caledonia acquired yet another property straight away. But it may be in Mark's mind to do that one day.

It is impressive that the conditions precedent for the acquisition of Bilboes were met quite quickly. I suspect that the influential Victor Gapare saw to that. The next few months should be interesting.

The more I think about Bilboes (and Motapa, which is a similar sulphide deposit contiguous to Bilboes and therefore eventually, maybe in 3 or 4 years time, could be processed at a Bilboes plant) the more I think this is a huge turning point for Caledonia.

Agree. Good update today. Looks like Blanket will continue at the increased capacity as expected. I'm surprised by how much they expect bilboes to contribute next year - way ahead of what I expected. It looks like the oxide operations will mitigate the dilution until we see the huge step up in production from the sulphides.

For many investors, Zimbabwe sounds alarm bells. On the ground, the situation is more nuanced.

Mugabe’s long rule left a country in devastation, but President Emmerson Mnangagwa is determined to lift his people out of poverty. Mining can play a key role and Caledonia has been doing its bit, with projects that are both recognised and appreciated by the government.
------------------------------------------
Regular readers of this board will recall that President Mnangagwa ceremonially opened the central shaft at Blanket late last year.

With regard to Caledonia seeming to be very adept at picking up gold mining assets in Zimbabwe at very good prices, here's what Mr Learmouth told me some time ago about the acquisition of Maligreen - "Nobody else in Zimbabwe could fund an acquisition for cash on this scale. We are aware that non-Zimbabwe gold miners are aware of this property, but they don’t have the in-country capacity to turn it it account".
