08/1/2023 12:25 | Https://www.thisismo For many investors, Zimbabwe sounds alarm bells. On the ground, the situation is more nuanced. Mugabe’s long rule left a country in devastation, but President Emmerson Mnangagwa is determined to lift his people out of poverty. Mining can play a key role and Caledonia has been doing its bit, with projects that are both recognised and appreciated by the government. -------------------- Regular readers of this board will recall that President Mnangagwa ceremonially opened the central shaft at Blanket late last year. With regard to Caledonia seeming to be very adept at picking up gold mining assets in Zimbabwe at very good prices, here's what Mr Learmouth told me some time ago about the acquisition of Maligreen - "Nobody else in Zimbabwe could fund an acquisition for cash on this scale. We are aware that non-Zimbabwe gold miners are aware of this property, but they don’t have the in-country capacity to turn it it account". | stemis
07/1/2023 23:19 | Looking very good here. They are increasing resources and production at the same time as the gold price is on the rise. Great timing. | papillon
07/1/2023 16:41 | Interesting to hear his views that Motapa, which is adjacent to Bilboes and which they bought for an undisclosed sum on 2-11-22 (undisclosed but below the regulatory disclosure threshold), could be bigger and higher grade than Bilboes. If they are similar ore types then this could be a sizeable operation significantly larger than Blanket. If the target is to become a 250,000 - 500,000 oz operation then we are looking at a company producing 3 - 6 times the current output !! Incidentally I've always found Mark to be very approachable and happy to answer (constructive) questions. | stemis
07/1/2023 14:31 | Another interview with Mark. Each time you learn a little more. In this case we hear that the oxides at Bilboes amount to 1.6 million tons at 1.8 gr/t. I think this is 90,000 ounces of gold. Of course we don't know how much of this is recoverable or over what period of time, or at what cost, but it's more than just a little. | mikkydhu
07/1/2023 08:21 | Good interview - thought Mark came across as very confident in the acquisition and prospects. I hope they make speedy progress with the feasibility study and keep us appraised or progress. | melody9999

28/11/2022 14:50 | There are two new videos on the website. Strong focus on the community. Very confident, positive and happy tone. Great viewing. Caxton Mangeze, Vice-President Zimbabwe Operations, says at the end, "My heart belongs to Blanket." | mikkydhu

15/11/2022 09:51 | A Commodity TV interview from yesterday following solar power coming on stream. More info. on electricity supply and its cost. Talk of hydropower from Zambia (more reliable). President of Zimbabwe to visit Blanket Mine on Thursday to open formally the Central Shaft. Should help with advancing the satisfying of the "conditions precedent" for the acquisition of Bilboes. Exploration potential at Blanket. All sounds very positive. | mikkydhu
14/11/2022 07:37 | Solar plant finally gets commissioned at CMCL Blanket mine "With 21 per cent of Blanket's on-mine costs relating to energy usage, this solar plant is a very important project for the Company as it will improve the quality and security of Blanket's electricity supply and provide environmental benefits through cleaner energy. The solar power will displace more expensive power from the grid and from the diesel generators and is expected to reduce Caledonia's consolidated cost per ounce of gold produced by approximately $37." At 80,000 ounces a year, that will be a saving 0f $2,960,000. That should soon pay for itself. | buffetcharliemtesque
13/11/2022 14:50 | It's not only about size. Shortly after announcing the acquisition of Bilboes, Mark Learmonth gave an interview with Jochen Staiger of Commodity TV. During the discussion, Mark clarified the company's thinking when acquiring an asset: "When we evaluate a project like this, we very carefully evaluate the cost of buying these assets and how we fund the development of the project, looking very carefully at what happens to the potential to pay a dividend when you take account of the shares you may issue to buy the thing, the shares you may issue to fund it. We need to see an appreciable increase in the free cash flow per share and hence the ability to pay dividends. And I don't mean a 10% or 15% increase: it's got to basically double our dividend-paying capacity. And we're very comfortable that Bilboes will do this because it's a relatively high-grade project." | mikkydhu
10/11/2022 08:38 | Excellent Q3 & 9 month report "2022 has been an outstanding year so far and I would like to thank the team for their continued hard work." | buffetcharliemtesque
08/11/2022 15:00 | 5 days ago, Mark Learmonth, CEO, gave an interview with Proactive right after the acquisition of Motapa. He goes so far as to talk of developing a "Brand new gold belt" in Zimbabwe. He said of Motapa, We think that it is probably the premier gold exploration asset in Zimbabwe in that it is very large (about 2200 hectares). Most importantly, it is contiguous with the Bilboes asset. It has every potential to be substantially bigger than Bilboes and possibly with a higher grade as well. Bilboes has about 2 and a half million ounces at 2.3 g/t. "It really creates the pathway now for us over the course of the next 5-7 years to build a really substantial open pit gold operation focused on Zimbabwe." The company has a great track record at the Blanket Mine; it has shown discipline in managing its finances; It has worked well with Zimbabwean authorities; It is endeavouring to pick the best assets in Zimbabwe at sensible prices. There's a lot to like. | mikkydhu |
