The ingredients list for the cheesecake is just shameful - it's like something out of a 1970s packet mix. How could anyone eat that muck?

They must be proud to use rapeseed oil for their sponges. I'm always miffed when I run out of rapeseed oil at home and am forced to use butter.

FYI this is the ingredients list. As far as I can see it's only really the cheesecake and icing/sauces that contains palm oil. The cake sponges are made with rapeseed oil. https://www.eggfreecake.co.uk/ingredients

I'm not sure anyone buys cake expecting it to be good for them! Appreciate issues around palm oil and would be interested in management's view and if they have considered alternatives.

The costs will be passed onto the franchisee. At the end of the day our products are priced at around £3.50-£15 on average so a few pence here and there won't make a significant difference. I'd love to see our products in India and USA over the next 5 years. I really like the simplicity of the business model and low cost base.

Last time I checked we can produce cream and wheat flour in the UK? Appreciate sugar is imported, hopefully they will be stocking up pre Brexit as it has a long shelf life

Just basing out at the moment so pretty normal price action - which you can't say for most of the rest of the market

And terrible markets in general! May be wrong but as their products are aimed at occasions (birthdays, weddings etc) it's hard to see how they would stop selling. Would top up but big position for me already.

It is worth listening to IMO. There is no new price sensitive info but it provides a lot more operating detail on the business and how they work with franchise owners. They also discuss potential for overseas master franchises (albeit not in the short term) which is not in my base case valuation but would provide major upside!

Yes second that, and please ask if possible why the have used profit before tax as a starter on the cash flow statement. Never come across that iffy method before.

Thanks Edmonda, but I won't be able to make it tomorrow either. Verulamium makes a good point though regarding palm oil. Whether you are pro-orangutan or not (and I most definitely am) it makes sound business sense to be working towards cutting these products out, as Iceland/Malcolm Walker has demonstrated. This will be imperative of course, if CBOX are to adapt their product to appeal to the growing vegan market. So, if I were there, I would be inclined to ask what they are planning to do to remove palm oil products from their ingredients list. If someone were able to ask this on my (our) behalf, I would be most grateful. Thanks

Thx Edmonda, can't make tomorrow but appreciate you sharing. If anyone gets a chance would be interested to hear if mgmt expect some operating leverage as they scale up in future - pre exceptional operating margin was actually down slightly versus PY in the half year results. And to pass on congratulations on great progress with the business and excellent PR work this week!Cheers, SAB

Cake Box. Think of the kinds of high street with big metal security shutters pulled down firmly at night.

The niche is producing a special occasion cake within an hour of order, that will bring in a non hindu market, even if it is just to try the product.

This company aren't trying to compete with Patisserie Valerie, they do something totally different and they are online. Think of them as a click and collect outfit if you like.

Given the relatively cheap pricing, they will appeal to large swathes of British society I am sure.

It's quite an easy concept to understand:

"...The founders of Eggfree Cake Box follow a strict lacto vegetarian diet, and that is how they came up with idea for the company."

And they love their E numbers, etc!
