This jumped out at me while re-reading the half year report....weight counts eventually, although with Burford it's a long wait. The combination of robust cash receipts in 1H 2020 and the significant level of receivables generated during 1H 2020 puts Burford on track to generate cash receipts from its first half activity at a level consistent with most full years, without taking into account additional realisations and cash proceeds in the second half.

Maddox sums it up. They gave a trading update in October which said the courts really weren't progressing a whole deal this year. Do you really want them to come out and said "revenue was zero this month"? What's the point? It's meaningless. As it is if they say the following month that revenue was 100m, 200m, 300m. The market then expects that the following month?? Even looking at a year is too granular on a business like this. They aren't selling tins of baked beans with a regular production line. My view is that more frequent updates is asking for exactly the kind of trouble most people complaining about the lack of updates on here say they want to avoid.

We know that the results will be lumpy and dependent upon the cases dropping into a specific period. The shorter the period the more volatile the results will appear. It won't be helpful to the share price probably damaging. It's in the nature of the business - so if you don't like it, find a different stock to invest in.

....rather than boring us complaining continually.

It's not too much to ask for a brief update

Yep - and recent weakness - against wider equity market direction - probably due to Peterson

I suspect management struggle with the idea of shorter-period, limited info updates. Given their backgrounds they could be worried that anything less than the full picture disclosed at the time of mandatory reporting events gives a potentially misleading picture and opens them up to....er....litigation! Let's face it, even the full picture when given is often difficult enough to interpret.
I feel confident that management will be doing as comprehensive a US II roadshow as possible (given Covid) after the full year results which are usually around 20-25 March.
Just my opinions.

As long term BUR AIM investors, we're kinda used to the long radio silences, but looking at it as NYSE investor ... you've got a listing - absolute silence, and a downward chart, (whilst most other charts are pointing upwards). It's not a great look.

1aconic - I agree we do not want excessive updates, but to provide no updates at all is also too extreme - surely there can be a happy medium? I also agree that we want Burford's lawyers and management to be fully focused on running the business, but that is precisely why you have an investor relations team to focus on keeping investors updated. This is not just cosmetic either - better PR should help with the share price, which in turn provides a cheaper source of funding to invest in new cases and ultimately lead to higher earnings, so this shouldn't be neglected as it seems to be.

1aconic, I don't think it unreasonable to ask when next results are likely to be, others here would like an indication if not an exact date due to Covid.

On that point, what is the best source to follow Petersen? I tried to log in a while ago and it didn't work.

RAR: If you really, really want periodic updates (almost daily at the moment), just follow the Peterson case progress. You can do that without bugging BUR. The harsh (and unfortunate in some ways) reality is that Peterson is by far going to be the biggest driver on share price over the next year or two.

Same old themes again... BUR are busy earning squillions for shareholders in the background - their time is better spend doing that. Earnings are by their instrinsic nature lumpy (even at an annual level). Excessive periodic reporting to a hyperacttive market is only likely to compound volitility. Why would a long term holder (or a company) want that? All the money BUR earns in the background will (hopefully) all deliver to long term holders in the share price at some stage...

Is there definitely an update in February? My understanding was last year was as one-off - Burford doesn't normally provide any trading updates, so was expecting to wait for the actual results around Easter time.

According to Stocko it's going to pay a 48c dividend in 2021 - no idea where that comes from.

Yeah there seems to be a sell bot running, swamping any buying, but when it's turned off, it should bounce back to the general trend.
